Watch Guy Fieri Take on a 5-Level Spicy Wings Challenge on 'Guy's Feast Club'

Flavortown is regularly on fire. Not literally, of course, but if you’ve watched an episode or two of any Guy Fieri show, you know that this is one Food Network star who rarely shies away from spicy food.

Guy’s Big Bite featured how-tos for so many zesty dishes that we rounded them up into a YouTube montage of Guy’s spiciest recipes, including Danger Dogs With Spicy Fruit Relish, Dragon’s Breath Chili With French Fries and more. Guy seeks out fiery fare frequently on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Four full episodes of Guy’s Grocery Games — "Spice City" (Season 15), "Super Spicy Superstars" (Season 19), "Ultimate Spicy Games" (Season 21) and "Super Spicy Games" (Season 40) — have celebrated culinary delights with a little kick … or a lot.

And, of course, we can’t forget about the iconic flame shirt. Even though Guy reportedly only wore it once, it has now grown to become one of the most popular Halloween costumes of the past decade.

So, we weren’t too surprised when Guy was able to sit down with popular sports content creator Jesser on a recent episode of Guy’s Feast Club, where he challenged his new basketball-loving BFF to a spicy wings challenge.

Who Is Jesser?

The duo shared some chill time and refreshingly real conversation to kick things off. In case you’re unfamiliar with Jesser — whose real name is Jesse Riedel — he’s a content creator who has more than 45 million subscribers on YouTube alone. His millions of fans, including Ryder Fieri (who played basketball in high school), tune in to keep up with his engaging and energetic basketball-focused videos that involve trick shots, dunk contests, insider stadium experiences and more.

Since Ryder was the one to put Jesser on the Fieri family’s radar, Guy FaceTimed his son to let him ask the first question: “You blew up! You went from daily vlogs to judging the [NBA Slam Dunk] contest. How has that been?"

“It’s been crazy. Sometimes I feel old in the YouTube community,” 27-year-old Jesser admitted. “When I was doing it at 15 or 16, it was a different era of making YouTube videos. He mentioned the daily vlog,” which offered a peek at a day in his life. “A friend gave me the advice that you need to make videos that anyone can watch. When I was doing the daily vlog, everything was personal joke after personal joke.”

Guy jumped in to clarify: “Inside baseball. If you didn’t know and weren’t part of it, you would kind of be lost.”

Jesser took that advice, and debuted his now-viral video about going to three NBA games in 24 hours. “That just popped off.”

Guy wrapped up the call with Ryder by confirming that he would use the questions and challenges Ryder had teed up as the guide for the rest of their Feast Club fun. First, a casual catch-up. Then, the games begin.

After chatting about Jesser’s brilliant mathematician fiancée (now wife) Christina Trexler and bonding over the fact that both Guy and Jesser dropped out of high school and later earned their GEDs, it was time for a snack. This is Feast Club, after all.

Don't Judge a Rib by Its Cover

Guy came to the table carrying a platter of K-Pop Sticky Ribs from Boneyard Bistro in Sherman Oaks, California. Why this dish? Guy noted that this rib represents Jesser to a “T.”

Sure, it looks like a standard rib, “but don’t judge a book by its cover. You’re not just a great-looking, 6'3" kid who makes great content that’s wacky … you’re a businessman. You’re a creator. You’re a community guy, and you’re highly regarded in the NBA. There are so many facets to you. Just like this rib,” which is tossed in an Asian barbecue sauce made with “more ingredients than letters in the alphabet,” according to Guy.

The “bussin’” ribs allowed for a seamless transition to talk about their all-time favorite food experiences (for Guy, white truffle pasta in Florence, Italy; for Jesser, wagyu beef in Japan) and to share some of Guy’s Santo Tequila. Realizing that a series of challenges were on the horizon, Guy laughed, “I better try to get a key advantage!”

“If I win, you have to put me on Triple D,” Jesser said.

“And if I win,” Guy countered, “you have to put me in one of your [videos]."

As part of Ryder’s unofficial Olympics, the new BFFs competed at a hook and ring toss, best-out-of-10 mini basketball shots, flip cup, darts and cornhole. At this point, Guy was ahead by five. So, Jesser upped the ante: “This is worth five points. It all comes down to this,” he said as he pulled the cover off a plate topped with five increasingly spicy chicken wings.

Guy began to worry: “That one looks like it’s going to hurt tomorrow!”

But the spice-loving side of Guy we know quickly burst onto the scene. Both competitors made it through one bite of all five wings. However, Jesser was noticeably challenged by the fifth. “Oh wow, that’s hot,” he said.

Guy only giggled and asked if they should see who can finish that fifth — and most fiery — wing. As Guy proceeded to peck at additional bites of that wing, Jesser started walking in circles while shaking his hands, trying to score some relief. He admitted, “You win!”

In a final score of 11 to 1, Guy took home the trophy as the MVP of this edition of Feast Club.

“I didn’t mean for it to get that hot,” Guy said, reflecting back on the spicy wings his son Ryder had selected for them. “That’s a good four [out] of 10” on a heat scale.

“That is not a four out of 10,” Jesser noted. “That’s a 10!”
