Finale: Top Two
In the fifth and final week of the competition, the Mummies Rejects faced off against the Crave Diggers. Both teams had experienced wins in the past, so it was anyone’s game going into these last two challenges.
Creepy-Crawly Things
Jonathan tasked the teams with making the most devilish Small Scare yet: a display of giant bugs attacking. Though their approaches were somewhat different, both the Mummies Rejects faced and the Crave Diggers focused their designs on wasps. And the results were buzzy-worthy.
Tricks and Treats
According to Jonathan, the “horror comedy” aspect of the Crave Diggers’ design earned them the win in the first round, which means they could choose which giant pumpkin they wanted before the Mummies Rejects.
The All-Important Jump Scare
If you’ve ever been the victim of a “jump scare,” as Jonathan described it, you know that it’s the ultimate fright. He asked the teams to bring that moment to life with haunting reality for their final challenge.
A Scary Blind Spot
Team Crave Diggers delivered a spooky version of a babysitter who’s freaked out by a hidden monster. That big red couch you see is a sweet combo of cake and cereal treats.
The Insides Come Out
A gory-looking clown with intestines spilling out was the main feature of the Mummies Rejects’ display. It was a haunting depiction of a birthday party gone wrong and included fondant faces built into the walls and a bloody-mouthed teddy bear.
Meet the Halloween Warriors
Mummies Rejects scored top honors and took home the coveted $50,000 prize this season with their not-so-happy birthday party display. Shinmin said that the mighty clown “is the scariest character I’ve ever seen on Halloween Wars.”
Week 4: Self-Reflection
Jonathan put a “personal” touch on the Small Scare Challenge this week when he asked the final three teams to bring their teams to life with spooktacular self-portraits. Here’s hoping that the judges like what they see when they look at the final displays.
Sweet Victory
With a literal representation of their team name by way of a “candy corn coroner” performing an autopsy, Team Candy Coroners wowed the judges with their expert skill and undeniable creativity.
Octopus Aplenty
Not one, not two but all three teams made an octopus the main focus in the Spine Chiller Challenge displays. They had to depict claustrophobia in the presence of a monster, and each managed to put their own signature spin on this tight-squeeze encounter.
An Odd Combo
“Whoa!” Judge Shinmin was (pleasantly!) surprised when she tasted Team Crave Diggers’ apple-scented bone marrow crème brulee. According to Todd, “It was weird, but it was good.”
All-Important Win
Team Mummies Rejects are officially finale-bound after their underwater-inspired display wowed the judges’ panel. Their octopus showed a victim getting pulled beneath the surface, as well as plenty of creatures in the sea. Next week, they’ll face off against the Crave Diggers for a chance at the championship win, while Candy Coroners are heading home.
Week 3: Final Four
The competition has dwindled and only the top four teams remain. For the first challenge, Jonathan asks them to bring to life an animal-type creature invented by a mad scientist. Anything can — and indeed did! — happen in the lab.
Animal-Esque
The Crave Diggers have won both previous Spine Chiller Challenges, but for the first time, they scored the top prize for the Small Scare Challenge this week. Their three-part monster was bright red and included elements of several animals, each of them extremely realistic.
Heavy Load
In the second round, the teams are expected to make larger-than-life displays, so you can be sure that the pumpkins in the patch are big — really, really big.
A Frightening Bunch
While Team Ghoulish was ousted this week, Team Mummies Rejects earned high praises and the win from the judges with a camping-inspired display — complete with a brain kabob. Judge Todd was particularly wowed by the trio of creatures, given that each was made with a different medium.
Week 2: Mighty Misfortunes
No one said that a visit with a fortune teller would lead to good news. This week, Jonathan challenged the Halloween warriors to create a not-so-lucky representation of fortune-gone-wrong.
Change in Luck
Fortune was on the side of Team Mummies Rejects when they scored victory in the first round. Their seeing-hand display earned them an extra helper for the all-important Spine Chiller Challenge.
True Deadly Love
For the second challenge, Jonathan went with the most-relatable horror of all: dating. He tasked them with bringing a “date from hell” to life, and they indeed delivered.
On a Roll
The Crave Diggers are two for two in the Spine Chiller Challenge! They earned the win again this week with their interpretation of a date dud, complete with Satan’s daughter at the door.
Saying Goodbye
When the all-important monster arm fell off their display in the final moments of the challenge, the Killer Cakers team tried their best to recover, but ultimately their piece fell short without it. They were forced to head home this week.
Week 1: When Good Becomes Bad
Pumpkin patches may be an idyllic fall scene, but Jonathan Bennett asked the teams to create sinister design inspired by the classic autumn escape.
In Progress
Snake scaredy-cats, beware. The Crave Diggers team worked on a pumpkin stuffed with a slippery serpent. But ultimately, that pumpkin topper didn’t make it, as it proved to be too heavy for the snake underneath.
Welcome, Jeremy
Jeremy Ray Taylor joined Shinmin and Todd at the judges’ table. He’s no stranger to scary movies, of course, but believe it or not, he revealed that he does have a fear of heights!
Early Win
Team Candy Coroners earned top honors in the first challenge of the season with their take on a pumpkin patch that’s been overrun with bright-green radioactive slime.
On an Empty Dirt Road
In the Spine Chiller Challenge, the pumpkins got (much) larger when the teams created designs to showcase a wreck of a road trip.
Sweet Redemption
In the first challenge, the Crave Diggers team suffered a major disappointment when the head of their serpent-pumpkin fell off during judging. But they redeemed themselves in Round 2 by earning the win with a ghoulishly good visit to the mechanic.
