The Newest Girl Scout Cookie Is Gluten-Free and Allergy-Friendly
Meet Sparkables, a collaboration with allergy-conscious brand Partake.
For most Girl Scout Cookies fans, the anticipation of cookie season is all about the allure of old favorites and classic flavors. But increasingly in recent years, the Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) have rolled out new flavors (and discontinued some others) to entice sweet-toothed supporters to buy a few new boxes.
The upcoming 2027 Girl Scout Cookie season is no exception. But this time, one new flavor is notable for the ingredients it doesn’t include, while another product is introducing a wholly different Girl Scout Cookie category.
What is the new Girl Scout Cookie flavor for 2027?
Meet Sparkables, the Girl Scouts' first allergy-friendly and gluten-free cookie. Sparkables are a crunchy oatmeal cookie with chocolate chips and rainbow sprinkles. As part of a partnership with allergy-conscious brand Partake, the new Sparkables cookies are vegan, gluten-free, nut-free and non-GMO. According to a GSUSA announcement, they were developed with “families navigating the most common food allergies” in mind.
They’re the first non-sandwich oatmeal cookie available since Rah-Rah Raisins were discontinued in 2016 (Do-si-dos or Peanut Butter Sandwich are technically oatmeal, too). However, Sparkables are probably most akin to Country Hearth Chocolate Chip, a chocolate chip and oatmeal cookie that lasted a few seasons beginning in the late 1980s.
What do Sparkables Girl Scout Cookies taste like?
Girl Scout Sparkables are an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie with sprinkles. I tried them ahead of their January launch and was surprised to find that, despite being described as “crunchy,” they retained a bit of a satisfying chewiness in the middle and, despite not containing any dairy, have a bit of butteriness. The sprinkles and semi-sweet chocolate aren’t too overwhelming, and the warm spice flavor of cinnamon also shines through. A contrasting sprinkle of sea salt is also present, especially lingering on the end. For a boxed oatmeal cookie — and as we’ve come to expect from most Girl Scout Cookies — they’re both a bit familiar, a bit unique and irresistibly snackable.
Are Sparkables Girl Scout Cookies gluten-free and allergy-friendly?
Sparkables were created as part of a collaboration with Partake, an allergen-conscious brand that creates familiar and “nostalgic” childhood treats without nine major food allergens or GMOs. According to the label, Sparkables are gluten-free, nut-free and vegan, as well as being certified non-GMO. The dough uses oats and oat flour, cassava flour and white rice flour, along with sustainably sourced palm oil and other ingredients like tapioca fiber syrup and raisin juice concentrate for texture and flavor. Additionally, as they are manufactured by Partake’s suppliers, they have been produced in a facility that is free from wheat, eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, milk, fish, shellfish and sesame, so they are even safe for snackers with high sensitivities to those ingredients.
Partake was founded in 2016 by CEO Denise Woodward, mother to a daughter who has been diagnosed with “multiple food allergies.” A Black-owned, women-led company, Partake also “partners with non-profit organizations actively pursuing an end to food insecurity and creates career opportunities for HBCU students.”
As of this season, Girl Scouts’ other gluten-free (but not allergen-free) options include Caramel Chocolate Chip and Toffee-tastic.
How can you buy Girl Scouts Sparkables cookies?
Sparkables will be available beginning with the 2027 Girl Scout Cookie season, which runs from January 12 through the month of April. However, they'll be an online-exclusive flavor, not sold directly at booths and tables. You'll be able to order them for direct shipping to your home using the Digital Cookie platform.
According to a GSUSA spokesperson, Sparkables are designated as a new permanent flavor and will be available in future seasons.

Did the Girl Scouts really release a new dog treat cookie?
It’s true — your pup can finally enjoy Girl Scout Cookies starting in the 2027 season, too. Patch Pals are a blueberry muffin-flavored soft cookie treat for dogs made in partnership with Bark.
