Just when you thought you had your fill of holiday sweets and treats, there’s a new batch of cookies we can never resist. Yes, we’re talking about Girl Scout Cookie season, which officially kicks off each year in January. (Don’t worry, we heard Thin Mints are exempt from any dietary-based New Year's resolutions.)
So, when can you expect to see your local Girl Scout troops setting up shop on sidewalks and outside of supermarkets? Well, that depends. Read on to find out the best way to locate the classic Girl Scout Cookies, plus a brand-new flavor, in your area this year.
When and where can you buy Girl Scout Cookies in 2026?
According to Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), cookie season kicks off today, January 6, and the selling season is recognized between January and April. As such, every local organization’s start and end dates vary. If that seems a bit vague when it comes to locking down your annual stock of Tagalongs, GSUSA has a few tips to make sure you don’t miss out:
- Reach out to a Girl Scout you know or who you’ve purchased from in the past to find out when they expect to start selling.
- Enter your zip code into the Girl Scout Cookie Finder, which can inform you about local troops, nearby booth locations and even when online orders are available in your area.
- Text COOKIES to 59618, and GSUSA will keep you up to date on all of the latest news and info you need to know about buying Girl Scout Cookies.

Which Girl Scout Cookie flavor is new in 2026?
Announced last September (when we got an early taste), Girl Scouts will be adding Exploremores to this year’s lineup. This new flavor is a crunchy take on rocky road ice cream: a creme-filled sandwich cookie “with delicious flavors of chocolate, marshmallow and toasted almond–flavored crème.” The rocky road inspiration was an intentional choice to highlight the organization's connection to the outdoors.
“Girl Scout Cookie season is always a moment of joy and tradition, and this year promises to be incredibly exciting,” Wendy Lou, who oversees the GSUSA cookie program, said. “We're thrilled to introduce the new, delicious Exploremores cookie to the iconic cookie lineup people know and love. With every purchase, consumers directly support local Girl Scouts' abilities to explore more opportunities in STEM, the outdoors and more.”
Which Girl Scout Cookies were discontinued in 2026?
At the start of 2025, GSUSA announced it would be the final season for two of its newer flavors, Girl Scout S’mores and Toast-Yay! Cookies. S’mores, introduced in 2017 to celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouts, were a cookie-fied version of the classic campfire treats, with graham cookies sandwiching chocolate and marshmallow filling. Toast-Yay! brought breakfast to the snack table as an iced French toast-inspired treat.
