Take a walk down the snack aisle at the grocery store, and you'll notice that there's a much wider selection of crackers than there used to be. Instead of choosing between Ritz, Wheat Thins and Triscuits, you now have options that span everything from nut-based crackers to cheese crisps.

Many of these new(ish) crackers are lower-carb than their OG counterparts. And whether or not you're trying to reduce your carb intake, these options are a great way to add some flavor and nutrient variety to your snack routine.

Types of Low-Carb Crackers

Low-carb crackers are typically made with alternatives to wheat flour. Many are made with almond flour (or other nut flours) as their base, which gives the crackers a crisp texture and nutty flavor. Some are made with flaxseeds and/or flaxseed meal, which adds tons of fiber. There are crackers made with a mixture of dried cauliflower meal and other flours, and others made by mixing various protein powders with binding ingredients.

If you're not sure which type to buy, your best bet is probably trying a few different kinds to figure out what you prefer. Taste and texture can really vary between brands, even those using the same main ingredients.

In the list below, we include the number of "net carbs" per serving. That's the total number of carbs minus the number of fiber grams (since fiber is a carb, but it's indigestible).

Ways to Use Low-Carb Crackers

Lower-carb crackers have the same crunchy texture as regular crackers, so you can use them pretty much interchangeably. Try packing them in your lunchbox as a dipper for hummus, adding a few different kinds to a cheese plate or using them as an easy side to a lunch salad.
