One of my favorite desserts when I was growing up was Mrs. Fields cookies. The only thing I loved more than the perfectly soft, deliciously baked treats was the brand's ice cream cookie sandwiches, which to me were (and still are) the perfect summer treat. So, imagine my excitement when I learned that there was a new Fields cookie coming to town — and this time, it was healthy!

Marketed as "cookies that taste as good as they feel," Fields Good are functional treats created by the one and only Ashley Fields (daughter of Mrs. Fields herself, Debbi Fields) and her co-founder and best friend Kim Anderson. "I grew up understanding that a really delicious cookie is about so much more than satisfying a sweet tooth. It can be nostalgic, comforting, celebratory, or simply make an ordinary moment a little better. That was the inspiration behind Fields Good. I spent more than two years developing these recipes, ensuring the function never came at the expense of the cookie, because at the end of the day, if it isn’t genuinely delicious, what’s the point?," Fields says when talking about her inspiration and vision for the company. Simply put, the secret behind Fields Good cookies is: "flavor first, then function."

Currently available in three different flavors, including Mocha Chocolate, Peanut Butter, and Oatmeal Raisin, each cookie promises a different health benefit and features "ingredients you can feel good about." Fields further adds that her goal behind choosing these purposeful mix-ins was to add "smart ingredients that meet you in the moments when you’re already looking for a little support." In addition to things like semisweet chocolate and Dutch process cocoa, these ingredients include chicory root fiber to support gut health and satiety, l-theanine for relaxation, and creatine for energy.

The cookies are usually sold in packs of 10 for $47.50 and can be purchased directly on the Fields Good website.

My honest review:

Fields Good cookies have a nostalgic, classic cookie taste. They're soft, chewy, and not too sweet, making them a lovely morning, afternoon, or evening pick-me-up. Here are my thoughts after tasting all three flavors:

The Protein Cookie (or Peanut Butter cookie) is bursting with nutty flavor. It’s chewy, and features chunks of roasted peanuts dispersed throughout it for added crunch and a texture that's reminiscent of jarred chunky peanut butter. This cookie also contains a total of 10 grams of protein and 4 grams of fiber to power you through your day. I could definitely see people replacing their typical pre- or post-workout protein bar with it.

The Focus Cookie (or Mocha Chocolate flavor) was the one that most surprised me. It's decadent and fudgy without being heavy, dense, or overtly sweet. A hint of caffeine shines through every bite, making it a good swap for an afternoon cup of Joe, if you're someone who's sensitive to caffeine. In addition to boosting your energy, it also has 3 grams of creatine, which supports brain health, and 250 milligrams of cognizin and 50 milligrams of l-theanine to keep you focused.

The Sleep Cookie (Oatmeal Raisin) is studded with magnesium-rich oats, plump raisins, and warming spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, plus a touch of honey, to help you unwind in a natural way. It contains 250 milligrams of l-theanine, an amino acid found in green tea, to promote calm, whether you're munching on it before bed (like I did) or while standing on a TSA line at the airport. Of all three flavors, this cookie was my personal favorite and made a real difference in my overall sleep quality. I gave it to two of my friends, who reported an increase in overall restfulness the next day too.

The final verdict:

All three Fields Good cookie flavors taste good, making them a great snack choice when you're craving a sweet treat with better-for-you ingredients. My favorite was the Oatmeal Raisin flavor because eating it was a genuinely relaxing experience for me. As a conscious snack, these cookies certainly hit the mark. Or lead the field, if you will!
