Amaretto Sour

The amaretto sour is thought to have been introduced into the cocktail scene in the early 1970s. Amaretto is a sweet Italian liqueur that gives the drink a distinct almond flavor. The key to a good sour is the right balance of citrus so that it doesn’t taste overly sweet.

Demerara Simple Syrup:

Directions

  1. Add the amaretto, lemon juice, egg white, bourbon and Demerara Simple Syrup to a shaker and dry shake for 30 seconds.
  2. Add ice and shake again until well chilled.
Strain into 2 rocks glasses and serve each with a lemon peel and maraschino cherry on a metal pick.

Demerara Simple Syrup:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water and bring to a simmer over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Allow to cool to room temperature.
