Antonia Lofaso Shares the Go-To Dish She Loves to Make in Her Brand-New Kitchen

Chef Antonia Lofaso's favorite dish is highly relatable.

Everyone has that one meal they can whip up (and eat!) on repeat, whether it’s at the end of a busy weekday or to celebrate with a crowd. Chef Antonia Lofaso — Food Network judge, host and competitor — is no different. While you might think she’d gravitate toward fancier dishes given her extensive repertoire (and her brand-new kitchen, courtesy of HGTV host and designer Alison Victoria), Antonia keeps things simple.

Her go-to dish is a cozy and comforting roast chicken.

“Back in culinary school, my instructors told me that if I couldn’t master a roast chicken, I wasn’t allowed to move on to anything else,” Antonia says. “Chicken, they said, was the most humbling protein. And they were right.”

In fact, after her kitchen renovation was complete, the very first meal she made for loved ones — using her new 48-inch Nova Series BlueStar range and an All-Clad stainless-steel pan from Williams Sonoma — was roast chicken.

“I’ll never forget pulling that shiny pan from my new pantry — behind the vintage door Alison found for me — and feeling like the moment had come full circle,” Antonia says. “I set my sights on roast chicken for the family that night, not just because it’s the dish that began my culinary journey, but because it felt so fitting to christen my new space with it.”

While her partner, Greg, and her dad (who was also the general contractor on her home renovation) were welcome to the chicken, the eight-burner range, she jokes, is all for her.

And just because Antonia's settling into her all-black kitchen, with a full set of new cookware and sparkling appliances, doesn't mean she's moving away from her tried-and-true recipe. And no one in her family minds. “They absolutely love my roast chicken,” she says. “I probably make it twice a week.”

If it’s still satisfying, there’s no need to change a thing!
