DIY Shaving Cream That's Perfect for Dad
The secret to a smooth shave? Coconut oil!
Episode:
Dishes for Dad

Ingredients
1/3 cup raw shea butter
1/3 cup virgin coconut oil
1/4 cup sweet almond or olive oil
8 drops sweet orange oil (or desired amount)
6 drops peppermint oil (or desired amount)
(Scented essential oils are optional. You can mix and match the scents you like.)
- Microwave the shea butter, coconut oil and almond or olive oil in a microwave-safe bowl for 1 minute. Continue to microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until melted. (Be careful removing the bowl because the oil is hot!)
- Add your desired amount of scented oil and place in the fridge to solidify. You can let it stand on the counter, but it will take longer to harden.
- Once solid, remove from the fridge and let stand to temper for 15 minutes.
- Use a hand mixer or stand mixer to whip the mixture until fluffy and creamy. The mixture should resemble buttercream frosting. Decant into desired resealable container and package with a ribbon, bow and/or razor.
To use:
Rub a dime-sized amount of the mixture on the area you want to shave and shave as usual.
When finished, you can wipe away the excess with a warm towel or rub it in if you like extra moisture.
Yields approximately 1/2 pint (1 cup) of shaving cream
