In case you hadn’t noticed, protein is everywhere. Of course, it was technically everywhere before, but now it’s being called out by the gram on countless products, menus and packaging labels, as more Americans continue looking to boost their intake. Yes, your body does need protein to function, and while you can get this macronutrient from many sources including meat and plants, a host of new protein-enhanced products have hit the market in recent years. And earlier this month, lifestyle fitness brand Ghost teamed up with General Mills on two breakfast cereals that do just that while adding a hit of childhood nostalgia.
What are the new Ghost protein cereals?
Ghost, which sells protein- and other energy-focused products, is now making Ghost Lucky Charms Protein Cereal and Ghost Cinnamon Toast Crunch Protein Cereal, each containing 17 grams of protein per serving and five grams of sugar. Additionally, if balancing your macros is important to you, the Lucky Charms cereal contains 16 grams of carbohydrates, while the Cinnamon Toast Crunch has just 11 grams.

How do Ghost Lucky Charms and Ghost Cinnamon Toast Crunch compare to the originals?
I tried all four cereals side by side, and while the experience is certainly similar, there are some taste and textural differences.
Lucky Charms
The Ghost Lucky Charms cereal includes actual Lucky Charms marshmallows, so that’s spot on. However, the other cereal shapes were changed from charms to spherical puffs. They taste a little different, too, as the original cereal is oat- and corn-based, while Ghost’s doesn’t contain any grains.
Cinnamon Toast Crunch
As for the Cinnamon Toast Crunch, the flavor is mostly identical save for the different non-grain ingredient makeup in the protein version. And the cereal shape was changed once again from crispy wafer-like squares to a more dense, pillow-shaped puff.
Both protein cereals register as slightly less sweet than their counterparts, especially in milk — which, depending on how grown-up your taste buds have become, may actually be a plus. And because of their differing shapes and makeups, they have a softer feel after soaking in milk for a bit, too. Whether those changes alter the experience too much is up to you and your protein preference.
Of course, cereal isn’t just for breakfast, and Ghost suggests these products can also make for a sweet tooth-satisfying, protein-powered snack to work into your routine.

Where can you buy Ghost’s protein cereals?
These sweet cereals officially launched earlier this month and are available at $9.99 per box from ghostlifestyle.com for a limited time. However, Ghost’s collaborations don’t just stop at fun ways to get more protein for breakfast. Ghost has also snack-ified some of its other supplements and products in partnership with brands including Oreo, Chips Ahoy! and Cinnabon.
That said, if you’re seeking ways to increase your protein consumption, consider consulting a dietitian to find solutions that meet your specific needs and goals.
