Now You Can Deck Your Gingerbread House with IKEA Furniture
Yep, you can add a little BILLY Bookcase in there.
This year, when you build a deliciously delightful gingerbread house and you think to yourself, “Why, that looks adorable enough to live in — if only it were furnished,” you have a solution. IKEA is now ready to furnish your gingerbread house, just like it has your (or at least our) home.
The DIY furniture chain has shared online free downloadable printable stencils and assembly instructions for little gingerbread versions of its iconic furniture items like the BILLY Bookcase, STRANDMON Armchair and MALM Bedframe, as well as the LACK Table, JOKKMOKK Table + Chair set and even the fluffy RENS Rug.
“At IKEA, we believe every house deserves to feel like a home — even if it’s made of deliciously sweet gingerbread,” notes the web page for the Gingerbread Home campaign, launched by IKEA Canada.
IKEA sells gingerbread dough, but the online stencils and instructions should work just as well with your own homemade dough.
“Simply cut out the templates, trace around them to cut out pieces of gingerbread, bake, assemble and decorate!” IKEA instructs.
That drawing of a happy, smiling guy on the instruction sheet of every IKEA furniture item you’ve ever put together? Yeah, he’s there on the gingerbread-furniture instructions, too. Only for this project, the tools you’ll need to assemble are a little different — a sheet pan, a rolling pin, a spatula, a pastry cutter, some scissors and what we’re guessing is a roll of parchment paper (or maybe aluminum foil?).
And you definitely won’t need an Allen wrench, metal brackets or those little wooden dowels to put it all together. The gingerbread furniture pieces can be attached with warm granulated sugar or icing.
“In true IKEA fashion, each furniture cookie is designed to be easy to assemble, giving everyone an opportunity to get in on the festive fun,” IKEA says.
