The Chicken Sandwich Wars that raged through 2019 and 2020 show no sign of letting up in 2021: McDonald’s has started off the year by announcing plans to join the action in a big way … by adding three (count ’em!) new fried chicken sandwiches to its menu.
Starting February 24, McDonald’s new Crispy Chicken Sandwich — featuring a fried chicken fillet made with all white meat — will slide onto the chain’s menu boards at participating restaurants nationwide in three iterations: Crispy, Spicy and Deluxe. The move follows a test of two of the sandwiches in Houston and Knoxville, Tennessee, in late 2019 through early 2020.
The Crispy Chicken Sandwich — served with crinkle-cut pickles on top and on a toasted, buttered potato roll — is being billed by McDonald’s as ideal “for those who want to keep things simple.”

The Spicy Chicken Sandwich — with Spicy Pepper Sauce along with the crinkle cut pickles and the potato roll — is aimed at “those craving some heat.”
And the heaping Deluxe Chicken Sandwich — which adds shredded lettuce, Roma tomatoes and mayo — is “for those looking for a little extra somethin’ in the toppings department.

So chicken fans will definitely have McOptions, especially considering standby options like Chicken McNuggets and the McChicken sandwich aren’t going anywhere. Plus, limited-time offerings like the Spicy Chicken McNuggets, Chicken McGriddles and the McChicken Biscuit sandwich are sure to spice things up under the Golden Arches from time to time.
“We’ve heard our customers loud and clear, and we know they’re craving more chicken options,” said Linda VanGosen, McDonald’s vice president of menu innovation, said in a news release. “We’re confident all chicken fans – from traditionalists to spice enthusiasts – will discover a new menu favorite they’ll come back for time and time again.”
Make room, Popeyes and Chick-fil-A…
