You Still Have a Chance To Get Walmart's Sold-Out Chicken Purse
Talk about a statement bag.
It’s not Chanel, Hermès or Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Gucci or Dior. Yet, for fans of rotisserie chicken, it may just be the it bag of the year — albeit a startlingly affordable one — and the brand behind this covetable purse is … Walmart.
In honor of National Chicken Month, celebrated every September, Walmart is dropping a new Rotisserie Chicken Purse, a limited-edition accessory for fans of its popular rotisserie chickens that, the brand says, “looks good enough to eat (but please don’t).”
What is Walmart’s Rotisserie Chicken Purse?
Inspired by this fall’s oversized clutch trend as well as one of Walmart’s most popular deli items, the Rotisserie Chicken Purse is a stylish polyester snap-close clutch that looks basically identical to the plastic zip-close bags Walmart uses to package its fully cooked rotisserie chicken, complete with a nutrition information panel and “Freshness Guaranteed” label.
The purse, like the chicken, comes in two “flavors" — Traditional (with purple trim) and Lemon Pepper (with orange accents). Remarkably, the bags are priced at $5.97 each, same as the real rotisserie chickens.
The bag also comes with an optional shoulder strap if you’d prefer to wear it rather than carry it.

Because, the brand notes, “no statement bag is complete without accessories,” Walmart is also offering a new limited-edition collection of rotisserie-chicken-inspired mini bag charms.
The collection includes:
- Traditional Rotisserie Chicken Purse Charm, an adorable change purse version of the bigger, purple-accented clutch, for $5.97
- Lemon Pepper Rotisserie Chicken Purse Charm, same as above, except with orange accents, also for $5.97
- Great Value Louisiana Hot Sauce Charm, inspired by a popular rotisserie chicken pairing, for $4
- Great Value Lemon Pepper Seasoning Charm, which looks like the store's seasoning, for $4

Can you fit an actual rotisserie chicken in Walmart’s Rotisserie Chicken Purse?
Given that the purse is the exact same dimensions as the bag Walmart’s rotisserie chickens come in (14 inches long x 9 inches high x 7 inches wide on the bottom, with insert), you certainly could put a chicken in it. (But I’m not sure why you would; it could get messy.) Having said that, you could use it to shop for small non-messy items, but really, it’s more of a handbag than a shopping bag.
What inspired Walmart to create the Chicken Purse?
Walmart says it wanted to bring its customers a new, fun way to enjoy a product they "already know and love.”
Walmart’s rotisserie chicken “has built a loyal following for its great taste and incredible value, generating more than 15K social mentions in the past year alone,” the brand says. “The Chicken Purse takes that fandom somewhere new, turning one of Walmart’s most iconic favorites into the season’s most unexpected accessory.”
How can you get your hands on Walmart’s Chicken Purse collection?
The limited-edition collection dropped on September 1 online at SparkShop.com — the official site for Walmart-branded apparel, accessories, collectibles and other merch — as well as in person at the Spark Shop inside the Walmart Welcome Center in Bentonville, Arkansas. All of the items sold out online.
However, there's good news: a restock is coming on Tuesday, September 8 at 8 a.m., “so there's still time for fans to get their hands on a purse,” a rep tells Food Network over email.
If you want one of your own, take the brand's advice and “get them while they’re hot.”
