Of Course Duff Goldman Gives the Best Dad Advice

We should've known the "Baking Championship" judge would be a go-to for expert-level dad advice.

Pastry chef, baker extraordinaire, musician and woodworker (yep, he has his own Etsy shop), Duff Goldman is the Food Network chef who can truly do it all. And he's known to share his baking knowledge with the world. Case in point: In his most recent stint as judge on Food Network's all-new show The Ultimate Baking Championship — in which 16 elite pastry chefs compete for the title of Ultimate Baking Champion and $50,000 Duff offers advice in the form of constructive criticism. However, it's not just his baking knowledge that fans are seeking these days. As a soon-to-be parent of two, Duff has been dishing dad advice to his followers on Threads — and we're all loving it.

“I just thought if I’m going to be on here, then I need to be myself,” Duff told Food Network on the Food Obsessed podcast. “With life in general, I'm a pretty even keel kind of guy, and I feel like with my accrued wisdom, I have some OK advice for people.” Whether his followers need new parenting tips, baking advice or want to know how to repair a toaster, Duff has a tip or two. He’s opened up his Threads for “Ask Me Anything" style Q&As where his followers probe him about literally anything and everything, and he responds with his classic Duff wit.

One of his followers asked, “How did this baking season go? Well Birtha (my mixer) just bit the dust. This mixer was the very first thing I ever bought for myself when I was 16. She was faithful for 17 years. I’m extremely attached to this mixer, my mawmaw taught me every single one of her recipes on it. If anyone knows someone who works on older Kitchen Aid mixers, let me know. The new Kitchen Aid motors just don’t work the same.”

Not to worry, it’s Duff to the rescue! He replied: “Ya know, this can sound crazy and it might be, but what if you found a new Kitchen Aid with the same specs on the motor and swapped it out? Works with cars. You might be able to buy just a motor from Kitchen Aid. Google your model number, find a motor and watch a YouTube video on how to remove and install it. It’s probably 8 screws and three or six wires. I believe in you!”

“I have no idea why you’ve decided to jump on threads and become our emotional support chef and hype man, but holy moly do I love and appreciate it. Things are feeling pretty rough these days, and you are turning out to be an unexpected ray of sunshine. So thanks. For real,” replied another fan.

Duff also shared glimpses into life with his daughter, Josephine, whom he’s raising to be as crafty and curious as he is. “I think being an older dad has actually made me better equipped to empathize with the emerging spirit of a little human,” Duff shared on Threads. “I have absolutely embraced Dadaism.”

Duff loves spending time teaching Josephine how to work with tools in his woodworking shop and introducing her to new things, like the Indiana Jones movies. The duo also enjoys “post-school soft serves.”

But what is Duff's best piece of dad advice? “Don’t second-guess yourself,” he told Food Network. “Show [your child] how to get through life with joy and empathy and kindness and compassion. Be here on this spinning rock for the blink of time that you get to be here and show them how to enjoy it. That’s your job.”

So next time you're stumped by a mechanical problem or a parenting dilemma, look to Duff for a message of positivity or a life hack that’s sure to turn your day around.

This conversation has been shortened and condensed. It originally aired on Duff's March 13, 2026, episode of Food Network's Food Obsessed Podcast.
