We’ll take any excuse we can to party like it’s our birthday, and Kit Kat has just given us a pretty good reason to celebrate.

The beloved candy brand is launching a brand-new birthday cake flavor this spring, and these sweet treats will earn a spot in the history books for more than just their festive taste. The birthday cake flavor will be the first U.S. Kit Kat to include a topping mixed within the chocolate.

Normally, the Kit Kat you know and love simply consists of the chocolate, filling and those crispy wafers, but in this case, there will be rainbow sprinkles folded into the chocolate itself. While adding toppings to a Kit Kat’s chocolate is already a thing in Japan, this is the first time it’ll be seen in the United States.

We had the opportunity to sample the new Birthday Cake Kit Kat at Hershey’s top-secret chocolate lab in Pennsylvania, and we’re already eagerly counting down the days until we can break off another piece. The newest Kit Kat is comprised of a birthday cake-flavored white creme exterior, plus those aforementioned rainbow sprinkles and crispy wafers. Despite being smothered in chocolate, the sprinkles still manage to retain their satisfying crunch. Overall, we thought it tasted almost as good as any ol’ birthday cake, but it’s a treat in its own right.

Kit Kat also let us in on the news that the Birthday Cake Kit Kat is the first of many new, limited-edition flavors set to roll out this year. Although Kit Kat U.S. currently offers a few fun flavors like Lemon Crisp, Raspberry & Creme and Dark Chocolate Mint, the collection is still shy of what you’d find overseas. For example, Kit Kat lovers in Japan can indulge in flavors ranging from apple pie and rum raisin to wasabi and soy sauce.

The Birthday Cake Kit Kat is slated to drop in April of this year, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for it at your local grocery store. We also recommend checking this article often — we’ll update it as we learn more about the Birthday Cake Kit Kat and other limited-edition releases.
