We Touched the Nearly $100,000 Golden Shamrock Shake

With St. Patrick’s Day nearly upon us, McDonald’s is, once again, rolling out its bright green, minty fresh Shamrock Shakes for a limited return. And just when we thought Shamrock Shake season couldn’t get any better with the release of the brand new Oreo Shamrock McFlurry, the fast food chain is now dropping what feels like a real-life pot of gold: the Golden Shamrock Shake cup.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Shamrock Shake, McDonald’s is putting up for eBay auction a hand-crafted 18K high-polish gold cup, bedazzled with 50 green emeralds and white diamonds, and 50 yellow diamonds in the shape of the famous yellow arches. The one-of-a-kind item, appraised at $90,000, is designed to “perfectly hold minty-green, Shamrock Shake deliciousness.”

If you’re wondering if this cup is as regal as it sounds, the answer is: why yes, yes, it is. We got the opportunity to hold *the* cup in our hands – with white gloves on, of course – and the experience was nothing short of luxurious.

The item felt heavier than one would think, and as promised, did, in fact, fit perfectly around one order of Shamrock Shake. The detailing was tasteful, including the diamond-encrusted McDonald’s logo. The “M” seriously dazzled in the light and we can confirm that whoever ultimately gets their hands on this cup is about to feel like royalty.

Proceeds from the Golden Shamrock Shake’s auction will go to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, the chain’s non-profit organization that “finds, and supports programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children and their families.” Sales from Shamrock Shakes helped start the first Ronald McDonald House in 1974, so it’s only fitting that 50 years later, the shake, now golden, will be helping the cause once again.
