This Is the Emily Blunt Potato Recipe Jennifer Garner Makes All the Time
Garner shared she makes the 4-ingredient side dish weekly.
Do you have a favorite recipe from a friend that you’ve incorporated into your weekly rotation — returning to it again and again, as if in perpetual tribute? For Jennifer Garner, that dish is Emily Blunt’s potatoes.
“I’ve made them consistently,” Garner — who frequently shares her admirable, yet relatable kitchen skills on her social media “Pretend Cooking Show” series — said of her pal’s recipe in a recent interview with People magazine. “Rarely a week goes by that I'm not in [the kitchen] peeling potatoes trying to make them like Emily’s.”
Garner’s three children adore the dish, the actress gushed, adding, “That's a definite recommend.”
Interestingly, Garner discovered Blunt’s simple, delicious recipe via a mutual friend: Ina Garten, who included it in her 2020 cookbook, Modern Comfort Food. (Garner is a major fan of that cookbook, which she has said she read “like a novel.”)
Blunt shared her personal twist on a family recipe with Ina in a 2018 Barefoot Contessa episode, in which Lin-Manuel Miranda made an appearance as well.
“This is like a staple in the Blunt household,” the British actress told Ina, before demonstrating a key step: shaking the peeled, boiled and drained Yukon Gold potatoes in the pot to rough up the edges before transferring them to a baking rack and then roasting them in oil.”
“You get a facial, you get a workout,” Blunt said of the crucial step.
Garner’s not the only admirer of Blunt’s recipe, which uses only four ingredients (potatoes, oil and two kinds of salt): It has proven super popular — crashing the Barefoot Contessa website when it was initially shared online.
Luckily, if you want to add it to your own repertoire for your family, you can find it right here on our site — Emily’s Roast Potatoes — and get a facial, a workout and celeb-friend-worthy side dish, all at once.
