How to Get a Ride in the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile? Just Call a Lyft XL
Some lucky customers can take the iconic vehicle for a spin.
Talk about a Lyft ride you won’t soon forget!
The popular rideshare app has teamed up with Oscar Mayer to give several customers a chance to take a spin in the food brand’s instantly recognizable Wienermobile. Yes, that Wienermobile. However, the memorable rides won’t be offered everywhere.
Here’s how it works: Oscar Mayer and Lyft will be offering free Wienermobile trips from August 25 to 27 in select cities across the country. Those locales — New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Atlanta — were picked because they are “the nation's hottest rideshare cities,” meaning residents of those places simply love to take a Lyft from one location to another.
In order to ensure you even have a chance at scoring a trip in the Wienermobile, riders in the aforementioned cities must request a Lyft XL. Then, if you’re lucky, one of Oscar Mayer's Hotdoggers — the name given to the two five-star drivers who will be driving the interesting car — may show up behind the wheel of a Wienermobile instead of a Toyota Camry.
According to Lyft, the 27-foot hot dog on wheels will function just like a normal ride, only better. “Riders on the Wienermobile will enjoy their ride with music, neon lights, free shirts, hot dog masks, and Weinermobile shaped whistles (a.k.a. Weenie Whistles), all the way to their final destination,” the company said in a statement.
The rideshare app also noted that this fun collaboration was designed to help “riders get back to the summer fun they missed in 2020.”
“We’re excited to hit the road with Oscar Mayer and surprise our riders with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate summer from inside the world-famous Wienermobile,” Ethan Eyler, Director of Brand Products at Lyft, explained.
The folks at Oscar Mayer concurred, adding: “With the world as our canvas and meat as our medium, we want to do all we can to spark unexpected smiles wherever we go.”
As Wienermobile watchers (is that even a thing?!) may know, this isn’t the first time the unique vehicle has been part of a fun gimmick. Back in July 2019, Oscar Mayer celebrated National Hot Dog Day by listing the Wienermobile for overnight stays on AirBnb, and it has also served as the backdrop for many marriage proposals.
