As a native New Yorker, I can say there's nothing quite like a generous cream cheese schmear on a bagel in the morning. I've been a fan of Philadelphia cream cheese since I was a kid, and have grown more fond of the brand over the years. And now I'm even more so, because they've just made their signature spread more accessible to millions of people. Enter: Philadelphia Lactose Free.

What is Philadelphia Lactose Free?

Philadelphia is the first major American brand to make lactose-free cream cheese. Philadelphia's Lactose Free is exactly what it sounds like — a cream cheese spread without lactose. It's blended with the same fresh milk and cream for the same taste and texture as the original, but now it includes a lactase enzyme to help make the product easier to digest for people who are sensitive to lactose.

"For too long, many lactose-intolerant consumers have had to miss out on cream cheese and some of the foods they love most,” Maddy Zingle, vice president of marketing at Philadelphia Cream Cheese, says in a press release. “Philadelphia Lactose Free changes that. From a perfectly schmear-ed bagel to a homemade cheesecake, fans can once again enjoy their favorite recipes without sacrificing the rich, creamy taste they expect from Philadelphia."

Like the original spread, Philadelphia Lactose Free is perfect for those bagels, pasta sauces, cheesecakes, frostings and dips (if you've never added cream cheese to pasta sauce, then you're missing out big time). Plus, it's worth noting that it has no added preservatives, flavors or dyes on the ingredients list.

Where can you get Philadelphia Lactose Free?

Looking to get your hands on this new lactose-free cream cheese? Philadelphia Lactose Free will be available at major retailers nationwide in the signature brick shape starting in August, according to a press release.
