Salt & Straw Makes Ice Cream Collection That Tastes Just Like 2021
The ice cream shop is topping off the year with flavors inspired by some of the year’s most memorable moments.

2021 has been quite the year, and while there’s many aspects of it we’re happy to see go, there has been a lot of fun, interesting moments worth remembering. Now, a popular ice cream line is getting a bit creative, and doing their own sort of year-end news wrap-up – in the form of ice cream, of course.
Salt & Straw is launching the 2021 Gone Viral Limited-Edition Pack, and it touches on some of the most important figures in pop culture during this surprisingly wild year. Here’s the scoop:
Billionaire Boys Space Club: We all recall when some of the richest men in the universe decided to explore the universe by visiting space this year. Salt & Straw nods to those days with an ice cream of soylent pudding with black charcoal ice cream and white chocolate-covered astronaut ice cream chunks.
#FreeBritney: We will never forget the moment Britney Spear’s conservatorship finally ended. This flavor celebrates that with a rather appropriate pink bubble gum ice cream that’s loaded with edible glitter, Pepsi and champagne gummy bears.
Calamari Contest: The world was obsessed with carving shapes out of dalgona candy this year, thanks to Squid Game. This is an ice cream of dalgona honeycomb, teal and pink tracksuit ice cream and bone marrow fudge. Fascinating mix, but then again, so is this do-or-die series.
Non-Fungible-Tropical Tuna Tamales: There’s a whole new vocabulary for currency now. The crypto currency marketplace is hard to understand, from NFTs to bitcoins, and even harder to get involved with, but growing in popularity. The same will likely be said for this ice cream made of roasted pineapple compote and prickly pear (a.k.a. “tuna”) clear caramel, and masa ice cream.
Nature’s Cereal: An ice cream of coconut water sorbet, pomegranate seeds, mixed berry jam, this is a recipe born of a TikTok video. TikTok is in itself a moment in cultural history, and many great recipes have gone viral as a result of TikTok. This flavor was inspired by Lizzo’s ASMR video, and created by @natures_food, and is an instant classic. Just like Lizzo.
This limited-edition collection will be available online only at Salt & Straw beginning December 29, while supplies last. We can’t wait to see if next year’s pop culture news ends up being as ice cream-worthy!
