Don’t let the naysayers who complain about Halloween candy hitting supermarkets in August get you down. True fans of the season know that it’s never too early or too late to keep things creepy. And true fans of Reese’s candies know that it’s not the cups, but the holiday-themed shapes that are the best delivery system for chocolate-coated peanut butter.
Now, Reese’s is letting fans of its Halloween-inspired Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins have early access to its annual, autumnal offering. Starting today, exclusively online, Reese’s lovers can order pumpkins to enjoy weeks before any coffee shops dare utter the words “Pumpkin Spice Latte.” This is the first time Reese’s has offered Peanut Butter Pumpkins outside of the Trick-or-Treat window.
Previously, Reese’s parent company Hershey’s has released other flavors and shapes in the off-season, including another fan favorite: Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs. The limited-time offerings are part of Reese’s Fans First lineup of early-access products for candy connoisseurs who buy directly from the brand.
Snack Size Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins are available in two-pound bags at shop.hersheys.com starting July 23, while supplies last.
Perhaps one of the likely reasons Reese’s is so willing to break its usual rollout schedule for its holiday shapes is due to their fervent fanbase. Online, you’ll find Reddit threads and various articles ranking Reese’s products, with shapes like Pumpkins, Eggs, Hearts and Trees, beating out even the classic cup. Some say it has to do with the softer texture of the chocolate shell, as well as the chocolate-to-peanut butter ratio, which favors the latter. (As someone who wholeheartedly subscribes to this preference, I admit that those are indeed the Reese’s shapes I sneak from my kids’ holiday candy hauls the most.)
While generally beloved, Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins have had their detractors, too. Earlier this year, the gourd-shaped goodies were the subject of a lawsuit in which one consumer took issue with the candies not having the carved out triangle eyes and toothy grin shown on some of their packaging.
OK, I’m not a lawyer, but who would complain about a bit more chocolate?
