Stellar and Striking

When McGee started to design this space, she imagined a vibe that would work well in a home not too far outside of the city — a little bit modern, a little bit traditional, and a lot of style. The modern colors and finishes feel as warm and inviting for a large group of guests as they do for small family. And while the decor gets top billing, the function of the space was painstakingly plotted to feel effortlessly versatile. "We loved playing with texture in this space," McGee says. "From the subway tile to the herringbone floor to the tongue-and-groove finish over the sink, we made everything work together by using a neutral color palette."

Command Center

The kitchen is the heart of the home, so it's helpful to have a small desk area to handle any household business — and keep your counters clear of paper clutter (and yes, we snuck a tiny TV above the desk too!). "I love adding a little work area to a kitchen; right next to the fridge is always a nice spot," McGee says. "It's far enough out of the way that it won't be spilled or splashed on." And let's not forget to linger a moment on that sleek, counter-depth refrigerator. "Framing your fridge with cabinetry makes it look more seamless and higher-end," McGee says.

That's Amore

The kitchen of a Food Network fan's dreams would of course include a pizza oven. It's certainly a luxury, but you can replicate this exposed brick look with or without it. "We used a thin brick veneer that you can paint," says McGee. "It's fairly easy to recreate on your own. You can use tile that looks like brick, too!"
