Kara, 31, began her catering business in Chicago while attending college, but her love of food took root years earlier as she watched her mother cook. An avid fitness guru, Kara puts her healthy spin on favorite tried-and-true dishes.
In Episode 2, caterer and fitness guru Kara Sigle was the first member of Team Bobby to be eliminated. Bobby wished he'd had more time to "pull the star out" of her.
Though she stuck around for just two challenges, Kara filled several pages of her Star journal with prep lists, presentation notes and ideas for dishes she hoped to prepare later in the competition.
Team Pride
As the finalists geared up for their first challenge, Kara was excited and optimistic: "Team Bobby is strong and will work as a unit to ensure we don't enter the chopping block," she wrote.
Shopping for The Tasting Space
For the Restaurant: Impossible challenge, Kara shopped at Restaurant Depot to gather ingredients for Team Bobby's restaurant, The Tasting Space.
Kara wrote out a detailed ingredient list, organized by aisle, to make sure nothing was overlooked on her shopping trip. On the opposite page is Kara's recipe for Carmelito Cookies, her contribution to Team Bobby's menu.
Sweet Success
Kara's dessert, inspired by a favorite recipe of her mom's, was a big hit at The Tasting Space. Susie Fogelson even asked her to bring out the whole pan.
Big Win
Team Bobby took home the first win of the season, which meant they were all safe from elimination. Here, Kara pulls Bobby in for a group hug.
Between challenges, Kara wrote out recipes for pie crust, white chocolate cheesecake, pancakes and "Lemon Delight" in her journal so she'd have them on hand. Unfortunately, she never got a chance to make any of them.
Stumped by Soul Food
The second challenge sent Team Bobby into Harlem to make dishes inspired by the neighborhood's iconic food culture. Kara ended up assigned to Melba's, a famous soul food restaurant.
On the Line
Back in the Food Star kitchen, Kara struggled to conceptualize her dish, while teammate Malcolm got right to work making his ribs inspired by Casablanca Butcher Shop.
Ultimately Kara decided to re-create Melba's signature dish, Chicken and Eggnog Waffles. She was completely out of her comfort zone: "I don't fry chicken. I don't like chicken on the bone. As far as waffles are concerned, I prefer pancakes."
Chicken and Waffles
"Hopefully my great story will distract if the food is not up to par today," Kara said before embarking on the bus tour where the finalists would present their dishes to the judges, their mentors and a group of tourists.
Kara wrote out presentation notes in her journal, but on the bus she stumbled and lost focus: "I completely forget to tell the audience about the story of chicken and waffles!"
Make It Memorable
Kara wasn't surprised to end up on the bottom. She faced Judson head-to-head in a Producers' Challenge, where they were asked to make the judges the best potato dish of their lives. In the end, although Kara's twice-baked mashed potatoes were tasty, Judson came out ahead. "It would have been great to have a couple more weeks to keep on learning," Kara said. "It's sad to leave my team."
