Ina Garten is finding new ways to turn the volume up on American classics. She starts by combining coffee chipotle chili powder and red pepper flakes for a spicy dry rub on Grilled New York Strip Steaks, and she cools things off with a Crunchy Iceberg Salad with Creamy Blue Cheese. Ina uses buttermilk for foolproof Fried Chicken and takes a clever shortcut with Peanut Butter and Fudge Ice Cream Sandwiches. For cocktail hour, she mixes up Dark Rum Southsides, and Chef Bobby Flay shows how to make a very grown-up Vanilla Caramel Bourbon Milkshake.
The Kitchen is throwing a Girl Scout cookie extravaganza with over-the-top recipe creations using the hosts' favorite Girl Scout cookies. Katie Lee kicks things off with her Taco Turkey Burger and Thin Mint Milkshakes. Sunny Anderson uses Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookies for her Easy Peanut Butter Cookie Waffle Ice Cream Sandwiches, and Alex Guarnaschelli incorporates Do-si-dos in her decadent Chicken Legs with Spicy Peanut Sauce. Jeff Mauro shares his Salted Caramel Samoas Cannolis, and then Geoffrey Zakarian makes his Shortbread Cookie Pork "Milanese." Finally, local Girl Scouts and the hosts compete in a Smart Cookie Trivia Challenge.
If there's one ghoul with a passion for the freaky fun, food and sweets of Halloween, it's Jeff Mauro. And the scary good times are only fueled by the costumed excitement of his young son, Lorenzo. So Jeff heads downtown to do his homework at a place that makes a frighteningly large array of sweet cookies and delicious Halloween-themed ice cream sandwiches. He gets a lesson in some key autumn flavor combos, then heads home and gets busy with some sweet/savory Halloween combo sandwiches to feed Lorenzo and his friends before they head out to trick or treat the neighborhood. The classic flavors of a caramel apple go devilishly well with bacon in his haunted take on a Panini. Then, an eyeball-shaped ham sandwich that stares back at you and Mummy Aki Chicken Fingers straight from the tomb of King Tut will keep his little goblins fueled and focused to bring back bags stuffed with candy.
Katie Lee heads to Tybee Island, Georgia, a barrier island just 18 miles southeast of culinary mecca Savannah. The small island is full of big flavors, and Katie starts her exploration with perfectly sweet local shrimp and a spicy blackened fish hoagie at a restaurant so beloved that the locals rallied to keep it open. She's introduced to "hog wings," a local version of hot wings that trade the chicken for pork, and she dives into the local specialty, oysters, that are so nice, she tries them twice -- roasted and baked with collards and bacon. Katie finishes off her visit with ice cream cookie sandwiches and deep-fried strawberries that represent what the South is all about.
