It's Asian street versus Asian chic as farmer's market veterans Anna and Stephanie square off against seasoned chef Maiki and front of house whiz Meghna. Anna and Stephanie serve up Thai street food staples like bamee hang and khao tom while Maiki and her best friend of 17 years, Meghna, fuse their backgrounds into Vietnamese / Indian comfort food featuring new creations like samosa spring rolls and besan tempura cod.
Purple, white and gold carrots, pink and white striped beetroots. . . the garden throws up a multicoloured feast of beautiful carrots and beets that form the basis of Jamie's recipes in this program. Jamie makes the juiciest pork chop with roasted carrots and beets, shows the carrot at their raw best in an Indian carrot salad and makes an exciting dish with foil-roasted smoked beetroots with beef and a cottage cheese dressing. We also find out why carrots mostly come in orange.
Jeff Corwin keeps it relatively local as he eats his way through the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. On the shore of Harstine Island off the coast of Washington, Jeff digs up, and dines on, the world's largest clam - the geoduck (pronounced gooey-duck). He dives Puget Sound to find and harvest sea cucumbers (not a vegetable, but an animal) one of the most unusual animals in the world, and filled with ooey-gooey roe - a bizarre experience, and an amazing taste sensation. Jeff climbs the rocky waterfalls to hunt and catch lampreys with the Grand Ronde Indian tribe, and joins a native American "gathering of the tribes" to celebrate their heritage, their tradition and celebrate the bounty of the sea with a big beach clambake.
