We all scream for ice cream? For sure. And we probably scream even more enthusiastically when that ice cream is free. Dairy Queen will soon give us an opportunity to do just that: Free Cone Day is coming back to DQ.
When is Free Cone Day at Dairy Queen this year?
Free Cone Day has been an annual tradition at Dairy Queen since 2015 (with a couple of years off during the pandemic). This year, it’s scheduled for March 19, 2026.
Usually pegged to the first day of spring, this time around, the free ice-cream-cone giveaway is scheduled for the day prior. The chain calls Free Cone Day “the happiest day of the year” for Dairy Queen ice cream fans.
“On Free Cone Day, fans can celebrate the warmer weather season and the simple joy of a classic, delicious free small vanilla soft-serve cone featuring the classic curl on top,” the brand says.
How does DQ Free Cone Day work?
On Thursday, March 19, when you visit any participating Dairy Queen location in the U.S. outside of a mall, you can get a free small vanilla soft-serve ice cream cone – no purchase necessary. (The deal is available with purchase at participating mall locations.) The giveaway will be available all day on March 19, but it’s limited to one free cone per person, while supplies last.
Is DQ doing anything different for Free Cone Day this year?
Last year, DQ, which has handed out more than 38 million free cones since the advent of Free Cone Day in 2015, gave away 5 million free cones across the U.S. This year, the chain is hoping to give away more free cones than ever before.
Also, as part of this year’s Free Cone Day celebration, Dairy Queen is launching a sweepstakes to give ice cream fans a chance to win free cones for a whole year. To enter the sweepstakes, log into the DQ App and sign up for DQ Rewards between March 5 and March 19.
