For Her Next Trick, Dolly Parton Is Granting Us Ice Cream

The mystery flavor, made in collaboration with Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, will benefit Dolly’s charity.

Update (March 30, 2021): The Jeni’s x Dolly Parton Strawberry Pretzel Pie ice cream is set to launch on April 8 at noon ET.

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams has another iconic flavor in the works and this time music royalty is involved. The ice cream brand announced Monday that its latest variety was crafted in conjunction with legendary singer Dolly Parton.

While the Columbus-based company is keeping details about the flavor under wraps for now, we know that the frozen treat has earned Dolly’s seal of approval.

The upcoming offering was first teased on the official Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams Instagram account over the course of the past week, as the company shared an Instagram post every few hours for a total of nine individual updates. Though the posts didn’t mean anything on their own, when viewed together they made up an illustration of Ms. Parton herself.

The final piece of the picture, which was shared Monday, revealed that an ice cream flavor “specially made for Dolly Parton” is slated to be released in the near future.

The caption of that final piece read: “Instagram Jeni’s x @dollyparton. Benefitting Dolly’s @imaginationlibrary. COMING SOON.”

In a press release also shared Monday, the Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams team confirmed the collaboration and shared a few additional details. “After teasing out an illustration of Dolly Parton in an Instagram mosaic this week, Jeni's confirmed the collab with the Queen of Country in a caption today,” the statement read. “The flavor will benefit Dolly's Imagination Library, a book gifting program that gives free books to children from birth to age five.”

Even though there are (frustratingly!) no details on what ice cream fans can expect from this flavor, Jeni’s did hint that more intel would be released soon and encouraged people to sign up to be notified when the ice cream finally makes its highly anticipated debut.

Given Jeni’s penchant for mixing salty and sweet notes, the sky is really the limit when it comes to this flavor. However, Dolly has shared some of her favorite foods in the past, and there’s a chance the flavor could be inspired by something the “Jolene” songstress loves to eat.

Like most Southern gals, Dolly apparently loves banana pudding and walnut pie. On the savory side, she prefers stone soup, roast pork and chicken and dumplings.

What’s more? In October 2020, Dolly opened up about her infatuation with potatoes. “Every diet I ever fell off of has been because of a potato,” she declared. “Either French fries, or mashed potatoes, or baked potatoes. Potato, potato, potato! I never met a spud I didn’t like.”

This upcoming flavor marks the third new ice cream Jeni’s has released over the past several weeks. In January, the brand launched a tasty Everything Bagel ice cream that promptly sold out, and in February it was all about the celebratory Buttercream Birthday Cake pint.
