Dolly Parton Is Launching Her Own Coffee to Perk You Up from 9 to 5
We've got a new reason to "tumble out of bed and stumble to the kitchen."

There may not be a better anthem for the work-a-day office drone than “9 to 5,” a song written by country music icon Dolly Parton in 1981 for the film (and later Broadway musical) of the same name. The opening strains mimic the rhythms of typing on a typewriter before Parton’s voice comes in, narrating a typical morning when you “tumble out of bed and stumble to the kitchen.” But the next line in the song is perhaps the most relatable for the groggy commuter in all of us… because it’s about coffee.
I, too, usually need to “pour myself a cup of ambition” before I can get my workday rolling. But now, Parton is turning that metaphorical mug of momentum into a real product. Earlier this month, Parton announced a partnership with the family-owned, Louisiana-based roaster Community Coffee to launch her own coffee brand called, naturally, “Cup of Ambition.”
Cup of Ambition will come in three roasts (light, medium and dark) and two formats — ground coffee and K-cups. While a rollout date for Cup of Ambition is still to be determined (sign up for updates here), if you’d like an early taste you can score one at another Dolly Parton project: Dolly’s Tennessean Travel Stop (think Parton’s answer to Buc-ee’s), which will open its doors on June 24 off Exit 22 on Interstate 65 south of Nashville.
“I've spent a lifetime workin’ 9 to 5, 5 to 9, and every hour in between! It takes a lot of energy to pursue your passion and navigate each day,” Parton says in a statement. “That’s why I wanted to make a coffee that works just as hard. You know, I begin each morning with a head full of dreams, a notepad full of ideas, and a cup or two of coffee. Whether you’re chasing dreams, tackling that to-do list, or just enjoying a quiet morning at home, I hope it brings a smile with every sip.”

Of course, the plot of "9 to 5" involves three women kidnapping their boorish boss and making him pay for his misdeeds while reorganizing the entire company for the benefit of the beleaguered workers. We’re not sure if Cup of Ambition coffee will provide you with that much ambition, but we’re pretty sure it will help to perk you up a bit during the day.
