After Fan Demands, Sheetz Brings Back Dr Pepper Barbecue Sauce
Thanks to letters, social media demands and a petition, the cult-favorite condiment is back.

Apparently, some change.org petitions actually work. After fan demands, the convenience store chain Sheetz is bringing back its beloved Dr Pepper BBQ Sauce. Here’s everything you need to know:
What is Sheetz?
Sheetz is a Mid-Atlantic gas station and convenience store chain with over 800 locations across the East Coast and Midwest. In addition to grab-and-go items, the store also has a made-to-order menu serving burgers, fries, sandwiches and more.
What's the story behind Sheetz’s Dr Pepper Barbecue Sauce?
According to a press release, Sheetz’s Dr Pepper BBQ Sauce “delivers a smoky-sweet flavor with a rich caramel depth. The signature cherry-spice notes of Dr Pepper blend perfectly with tangy barbecue spices, creating a sauce that’s both savory, sweet and slightly spicy.”
The sauce became a cult-favorite on Sheetz’s made-to-order menu before it was unceremoniously removed in May 2024.
In December of that year, a Sheetz superfan named Dawson Fisher created a change.org petition to bring the sauce back.
“I was deeply saddened when my favourite Dr Pepper BBQ Sauce disappeared from the menu,” Fisher said in the petition. "This unique sauce, with its perfect blend of peppery tang and sweet and spicy smokey flavor, was an integral part of the Sheetz experience for many of us.”
Along with the petition, the chain also received an influx of social media comments about the sauce. Sheetz also says it received handwritten letters to the Sheetz family (who owns the chain), urging them to bring it back.
Well, sometimes wishes do come true. Sheetz listened to fans and at the beginning of June, the brand teased on social media that the sauce might be returning. A few days later, it came out with a few official announcement posts, including a playful video of a Sheetz executive reading a large stack of fan comments.
How are fans reacting to the sauce’s return?
To say they’re freaking out would be an understatement.
“I am beyond emotions at this point. Change is a real thing. After sending 90+ physical letters this year, it's incredible to witness the power of community passion and dedication. Thank you, Sheetz, for listening and bringing this back!" one fan wrote on Facebook.
"Sheetz, I just fell to my knees in public and started crying tears of joy. You just made summer," another said on Instagram.
"The best news possible. Now I don't have to listen to my husband complain about this anymore," a third added.
“THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE,” a fourth commented on TikTok.
Where can you get Sheetz's Dr Pepper BBQ Sauce?
The sauce is available now at all Sheetz locations.
"We're hopeful that the same fans who championed its return will continue showing their love by adding Dr Pepper BBQ to all their favorite MTO creations. Right now it’s back as a limited-time offer, but as long as our customers keep showing up for it, we'll keep finding ways to keep it on the menu," Caroline Constantine, Brand Publicist at Sheetz, said in a statement to Food Network.
