I Tried Heinz's New Mayo-Style Dips
A bottled restaurant-style aioli? I'm into it.

Ketchup is amazing on fries. That’s just an objective fact. But there are those who prefer mayonnaise — sometimes even flavored mayo-based aiolis.
Heinz, best known for its ketchup but no stranger to branching out, is now dipping into these dips with a new line of bottled sauces: Heinz Mayonnaise-Style Dips.
I got an advance taste of all three of the varieties in the new lineup and — spoiler alert — I’d definitely reach for any of the three Heinz Mayonnaise-Style Dips for an alternative to ketchup (the G.O.A.T.) on my fries.
What are Heinz Mayonnaise-Style Dips?
They are a trio of “creamy mayo-based sauces, inspired by the rising obsession with bold, creamy sauces and restaurant-style aiolis” that are “expertly crafted to elevate everyday meals,” according to the brand.
Heinz says mayo-based sauces are a growing trend, especially in the fast-food space, and that people are looking for condiments that are “richer and bolder.” The new dips feature flavorful ingredients like citrus, buttermilk and roasted garlic.
“Inspired by restaurant favorites, Heinz Mayo-Style Dips are designed to dip, spread or drizzle atop favorite foods like chicken wings, pizza or french fries from home,” the brand says.
What are the three Heinz Mayonnaise-Style Dips?
- Lemon Pepper Parm: Officially described as a “creamy blend of mayonnaise with a zip of citrus flavor, followed by a punch of cracked black pepper and grated parmesan cheese for a complex mouthfeel.”
- Buttermilk Ranch: This ranch-inspired dip “delivers tangy buttermilk, balanced by a blend of garlic, onion and herbs for a rich finish,” Heinz says.
- Steakhouse Garlic: Heinz calls this one an “elevated twist on classic garlic aioli, featuring onion and roasted garlic for an umami flavor, a hint of zesty black pepper and balanced by brown sugar for a slightly sweet finish.”
My honest review of the new Heinz Mayonnaise-Style Dips:
I actually really liked them all. Since I didn’t have any French fries on hand, I tried each of the three dips on a potato chip.
The Lemon Pepper Parm was the subtlest of the three. In fact, I had to try it a few times to get the flavor. While the lemon definitely came through, I didn’t really taste much in the way of Parmesan. It reminded me a little of tartar sauce, but not in a bad way.
By comparison, the Buttermilk Ranch was significantly more flavorful. I enjoyed the tanginess. It was also remarkably garlicky, which I enjoyed. Overall, quite tasty.
If the Buttermilk Ranch was so garlicky, I wondered how garlicky the Steakhouse Garlic would be. The answer: very garlicky indeed. It was almost like a whole clove experience. As a garlic lover, I’m a fan of this one.
I would definitely eat any of these on fries or chips. (I leaned heavily on the Buttermilk Ranch and Steakhouse Garlic as I finished my bag.) I could even see spreading them on a sandwich instead of regular mayo for an extra kick.
