As teams from around the world descend on North America for the World Cup this summer, soccer fans from dozens of countries will mix and mingle in the sporting event’s 16 host cities. With all that travel comes the opportunity to share dishes and flavors across cultures. And even for those of us watching the games on our couch, getting a small taste of international cuisine will be as easy as opening a bag of chips.

Iconic potato chip brand Lay’s, an official sponsor of FIFA World Cup 26, is rolling out a trio of new flavors for U.S. snack fans to try, just in time for the quadrennial event. Each one represents a formidable contender in the World Cup: Argentina, which last won in 2022; France, which won in 2018, and Brazil, which has won the most World Cup trophies of any country, at five total.

What are the new Lay's World Cup flavors?

Here are all three new, limited-edition Lay’s flavors hitting stores nationwide this May:

  • Lay's Argentinian‑Style Steak with Chimichurri: Inspired by Argentine cuisine, this flavor delivers a rich, steak taste blended with cilantro, lemon, basil, bay, thyme, oregano, parsley and garlic.
  • Lay's Brazilian‑Style Garlic Sauce: Blended with buttery garlic and creamy dairy, this flavor brings a lemon tangy kick for a savory finish inspired by Brazil's love for bold, layered tastes.
  • Lay's Wavy French Onion Soup: Featuring a rich, aged cheddar cheese and fine herbs, this flavor offers a creamy, savory taste paired with a perfectly golden, crispy crunch.

My honest review of the limited-edition World Cup chips:

I tried these U.S. editions ahead of the launch, and all three delivered on unique potato chip flavor profiles. The chimichurri flavor was herb-y and just slightly meaty, the Brazilian flavor had strong garlic notes and somehow tasted rich and creamy along with a bright hit of lemon, and the French onion soup had funky cheese notes mellowed out by the taste of savory caramelized onion.

What else is Lay's doing for the World Cup?

Lay’s isn’t stopping at three flavors. The brand’s reach is worldwide, and as such, it's releasing different limited-edition chips around the world — 44 flavors in all — inspired by other regional dishes. They'll be available in select markets on nearly every continent. To get a taste, they include Canadian Loaded Poutine, English Fish and Chips, Polish Kielbasa, Nashville Hot Chicken, Iraqi Dolma, Mexican Pineapple Jalapeño and Saudi Pickled Lemon.

And, if you didn’t manage to score tickets to the World Cup, Lay’s also might have you covered. Fans who enter a sweepstakes have a chance to win a pair of tickets that include pitchside access and an appearance on the jumbotron, with a total of 104 prize packages being given away — one for each match. For more info and official rules, U.S. soccer fans should head to LaysFWC26.com and enter by May 2.

Where can you buy Lay's new World Cup flavors?

You can find the three new U.S. flavors at retailers nationwide, on snacks.com and on TikTok Shop starting early next month.
