Free Footlongs Are Back at Subway
The chain is bringing back ‘Sub Club,’ an old-fashioned loyalty program that was pulled 20 years ago.

Here are two words that will gladden the heart of Subway fans: Free footlongs.
The sandwich chain has just announced that, beginning on Monday, December 1, it’s planning to bring back its Sub Club members program with a “modern twist and unparalleled value when they need it the most.” That twist includes the promise that “every fourth footlong is free.”

What is Subway’s Sub Club?
Subway’s Sub Club was an OG loyalty program that, before the chain pulled the plug on it in 2005, offered customers a stamp for each six-inch sub they purchased. Once a customer collected eight stamps on a card (yes, an old-fashioned paper stamp card), they could redeem the card for a free sandwich. It was later replaced by Subway’s app-based MVP Rewards program.
What’s happening with Subway’s Sub Club now?
Starting December 1, Subway is bringing back the Sub Club after 20 years and is promising that it will make it easier than ever to earn rewards and free footlongs.
Benefits include a free footlong sandwich after you buy three footlongs or six 6-inch subs — or any combination thereof. Sub Club members also earn points with every transaction; these points can then become Subway Cash that can be used to save on a future order.
Additionally, Sub Club members will gain access to exclusive offers and promotions, and perks like free cookies on their birthday.
Why is Subway bringing back its Sub Club — and what does this mean for current MVP Rewards members?
All MVP Rewards members will be automatically enrolled in Sub Club as of December 1.
Dave Skena, chief marketing officer, North America, for Subway, says the company’s chief goal in reviving Sub Club was “to reduce the number of visits needed to earn something of real value.”
“Subway’s original Sub Club card set the standard for restaurant loyalty programs,” Skena says in a press release, “and we’re committed to ensuring our current program continues to deliver meaningful rewards and experiences for our guests.”

How can you sign up for Subway’s Sub Club?
If you’re not an MVP Rewards member and consequently an automatic Sub Club enrollee, you can sign up for Subway’s revived Sub Club via the Subway App, on Subway.com or at your nearest restaurant location. (Note that catering orders and third-party deliveries will not earn you Sub Club rewards.)
