Aldi Pressure Cookers Are Being Recalled After Severe Burn Reports – Here’s What To Check on Yours

Check your kitchen cabinets, pantries and appliance garages. More than 46,000 pressure cookers sold at Aldi stores nationwide between January 2016 and December 2019 are being recalled because they present a “serious burn risk” to consumers, according to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Which Aldi pressure cookers are being recalled?
The recall — which was initiated by importer Tempo International (USA) Inc., of Aventura, Florida — pertains to Ambiano electric pressure cookers with the model numbers 93550 (KY-318B), 96775 (KY-318A) and 98527 (6L-PC). The recalled electric pressure cookers have inner cook pots and were sold in both six- and eight-quart sizes. They feature the brand name Ambiano on the front of the unit and on a permanent product label on the bottom. The model number can also be found on that permanent label.
The recalled units were manufactured in China and sold at Aldi retail stores nationwide from January 2016 to December 2019 for around $40. In total, about 46,660 are being recalled.
Why are the Ambiano electric pressure cookers being recalled?
The lids of the recalled pressure cookers “can be opened before sufficient steam pressure has been released, causing hot contents to escape and posing a risk of burn injuries to consumers,” according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
At the time the recall was initiated on October 9, there were 11 reported incidents of expulsion of a cooker’s hot contents under pressure. Eight of those incidents resulted in severe burn injuries.
What should you do if you have one of the recalled electric pressure cookers?
If you have one of the recalled pressure cookers, you are advised to stop using it immediately and contact Tempo or Aldi to receive a refund.
“Consumers can either return the fully intact pressure cooker to any Aldi retail location for a full refund or submit a photo of the pressure cooker with the unplugged power cord cut and a photo showing the model number and date code via email to Tempo at serviceusa@tempo.org,” the recall notice states.
