3 Popular Coca-Cola Products Are Being Recalled Because They Might Have Metal in Them

Coca-Cola is recalling specific lots of three types of canned soda — Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, Coca-Cola and Sprite — because they may contain a “foreign material.” That foreign material is metal.
The initial recall notice was issued on October 3. However, on October 20, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) boosted the recall classification to Class II status, which indicates “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
The status of the recall is “ongoing.”

Which Coca-Cola products are being recalled?
The recall affects the following products:
- Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, sold in 12-ounce cans. The recall affects 12 packs with the product code “49000042559 / FEB0226MAA” and 35 packs with the product code “49000058499 / FEB0226MAA.” (1115 units)
- Coca-Cola, sold in 12-ounce cans. The recall pertains to 24 packs with the product code “49000012781 / JUN2926MAA” and 35 packs with the product code “49000058468 / JUN2926MAA.” (2322 units)
- Sprite, sold in 12-ounce cans. The recall applies to 35 packs with the product code “49000058482 / JUN2926MAA,” 12 packs with the product code “49000028928 / JUN2926MAA” and 12 packs with the product code “49000028928 / JUN3026MAB.” (791 units)
The recall was issued by Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages, a subsidiary of Coca-Cola bottler Arca Continental. Based in Dallas, the bottler generally distributes beverages to Texas and parts of Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arkansas. However, the FDA names only Texas as a distribution site of the products subject to this recall.
What should you do if you have one of the recalled cans of soda?
Although neither Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages nor the FDA has issued official guidance for consumers, a spokesperson told Today that consumers in possession of one of the recalled cans of soda should dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase for an exchange or refund.
