Starbucks’ New Iced Espresso Drink Is a Bubbly Spin on a Classic

Starbucks doesn’t shy away from putting new and surprising flavors on its menu. But the global coffee chain also seems to understand that classics are just as important to its customers, as evidenced by the annual return of the Pumpkin Spice Latte. Sometimes, however, Starbucks figures out a new take on a classic drink — as is the case this week, when iced coffee fans will have a new way to experience espresso with the release of the Aerocano.
What is the Starbucks Aerocano?
In short, the Starbucks Aerocano is an iced espresso beverage that's steamed and aerated to produce microbubbles that give it a uniquely smooth and creamy texture. Starbucks’ announcement described it as “air-whipped to create a light foam and cascading visual effect.”
You might be familiar with the phenomenon of the bubbles traveling downward rather than up in a freshly poured stout beer or nitro cold brew. That’s the case with the Aerocano as well, which baristas aerate by hand when you order it.
The drink actually originated in the Korean market earlier this year, so if it looks familiar, it's possible that it's popped up on your social media feed before.
What ingredients are in the Starbucks Aerocano?
Despite its rich texture and layer of frothy crema on top, the only ingredients in an Aerocano are Starbucks Blonde Espresso and ice. (If you opt for the Caramel Aerocano, there’s also the addition of caramel syrup.) However, as a permanent addition to the Starbucks menu, the Aerocano will be customizable with any flavor syrups, sauces or other add-ins that you choose.
What does a Starbucks Aerocano taste like?
I tried the Aerocano at a preview tasting event earlier this month, and as someone who doesn’t usually order Blonde Espresso, I was surprised by its sweet, floral flavor notes and velvety texture. While the flavor of the espresso takes the spotlight, sipping it feels incredibly light and smooth with a bit of a creaminess that you’d think comes with the addition of some kind of milk. Though it's debuting this fall, I think the Aerocano is appealing as a refreshing new espresso option for iced beverage fans year-round.
When can you order the Starbucks Aerocano?
The Aerocano will be available nationwide in the U.S. starting Tuesday, September 29, 2026. The Aerocano and Caramel Aerocano will join the permanent Starbucks menu.
What are Starbucks' new Mini Pies?
Starbucks is also releasing more autumnal treats this week, including a trio of adorable tiny pies. Starbucks Mini Pies come in three flavors — Apple Crumble Mini Pie, Pecan Mini Pie and Pumpkin Mini Pie.
Starbucks’ announcement describes them as “bringing together flavors like tender apples with buttery streusel, toasted pecans with caramelized sweetness and creamy pumpkin with warm fall spices.” Starbucks Mini Pies will also be available beginning Tuesday, September 29. However, unlike the Aerocano, they will only be available for a limited time as part of the chain's fall menu.
