Recent cold spells across much of the nation may make this hard to believe, but spring is soon upon us and that means seasonal beverages and menu items can’t be far behind.
Starbucks is launching its spring menu on Tuesday, March 4, and while there’ll be some returning favorites, there’s also some new items sure to get attention.
The new Iced Cherry Chai is a fruity seasonal option for those who aren’t all about coffee, as its base is black tea that is infused with cinnamon, clove and an assortment of other warming spices that is then blended with milk and ice before being garnished with cherry cream cold foam and a sprinkle of cherry crunch topping.
“When you take a sip of Iced Cherry Chai, you immediately get a creamy texture, warm spices, and notes of cherry – and it all comes together in an approachable way,” said Billy Altieri, lead beverage developer for Starbucks, in a statement to the media.
While this is the first time that cherry chai or cherry cream cold foam has debuted on the Starbucks menu, cherry has made appearances in other ways before, such as the 2017 Cherry Pie Frappuccino or the 2019 Dark Cherry Mochas. Both these drinks had strong fan bases, so it’s not surprising cherries continue to make an appearance in inventive new ways.

The new cherry-centric beverage will be joined by the Jalapeño Chicken Pocket, which is a permanent menu addition, as well as the new blonde roast Sunsera Blend. And for fans of last year’s line of lavender beverages, they’re returning as well. This includes the Iced Lavender Cream Oatmilk Matcha, Iced Lavender Oatmilk Latte, and the Lavender Crème Frappuccino, all of which can be topped with Cherry Cream Cold Foam or Lavender Cream Cold Foam.
With flavors like these, spring can't come soon enough.
