Frozen Cheese Bread Recalled Nationwide for Salmonella Risk
The products were sold at Costco, Walmart, Target and other major chains.

Check your freezers: Several batches of Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread have been recalled by manufacturer Champion Foods LLC, of New Boston, Michigan because they may have been contaminated with Salmonella.
The recalled bread was distributed and sold in single- and two-packs nationwide at major retail chains including Costco, Walmart, Target, Giant Landover, Meijer, Publix, Jewel and Kroger, among many others.
Which products are being recalled?
Champion Foods is recalling Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread Single Packs (UPC code 8 70375 00511 1) with the following sell-by dates (printed in black inside the product image on the front of the box): 2/4/2027, 2/5/2027, 2/23/2027, 2/24/2027, 3/9/2027, 3/10/2027, 3/17/2027, 3/18/2027, 3/24/2027, 3/25/2027, 4/7/2027, 4/8/2027, 4/20/2027 and 4/21/2027.
The company has also voluntarily recalled Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread 2 Packs (UPC code 8 70375 00509 8) with the following sell-by dates printed on the box: 2/3/2027, 2/4/2027, 2/24/2027, 2/25/2027, 3/10/2027, 3/11/2027, 3/18/2027 and 3/25/2027.
The recall, which the company initiated on May 29 in coordination with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, does not affect any other Motor City Pizza Co. products, Champion Foods says.
Why are the products being recalled?
A seasoning blend used in Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread’s “5 cheese sauce blend” includes milk powder that was recalled by California Dairies, Inc. because it may have been contaminated with Salmonella.
Although no one has reported illness related to the recalled products at this time, and routine testing by the seasoning blend manufacturer ahead of its use in the Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread showed no indication that it contained Salmonella, Champion Foods says it has issued the recall “out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our customers.”
Healthy people infected with Salmonella may experience symptoms including fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain and, rarely, more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis. Salmonella infections may be more serious, even fatal, in young children, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems.

What should you do if you have the recalled products or would like more information?
