The “nut” part of Nutella has always meant hazelnut. But there’s a new nut in town: Peanut Nutella is now a thing.
The spread, which just dropped nationwide, is the first new flavor Nutella has introduced in the more than 60 years the brand has existed.
What is Nutella Peanut?
You’d think it was basically Nutella — the beloved, creamy nut-and-cocoa spread — only with peanuts instead of hazelnuts, but that’s not exactly right.
“The new product doesn't swap out hazelnuts for peanuts; it layers roasted peanut flavor on top of the signature Nutella creaminess, creating what the brand calls a distinctly peanut-forward experience, with the familiar hazelnut soul still underneath,” a Nutella spokesperson tells Food Network via email.
Nutella Peanut is “crafted to spread smiles,” the brand says. We could see spreading it on toast or bread at breakfast, or maybe on a sandwich for a sweet afternoon snack.
Why is Nutella launching Nutella Peanut?
Nutella Peanut arrives in response to longtime demand. The brand says the new spread was created specifically for consumers in North America, a direct reaction to the fact that people have long paired Nutella with peanut butter.
"Nutella Peanut delivers the same creamy experience fans know and love, now blended with the irresistible taste of roasted peanuts,” Noah Szporn, Ferrero North America Senior Vice President of Spreads, says in a press release. “Our fans have been asking for this for years. We heard them, and afternoon snack time will never be the same."
How is Nutella Peanut’s arrival being received?
Nutella fans are kind of going nuts.
“omg yum!!” Wrote one commenter on Instagram.
“What!?! So excited!“ Another exclaimed.
“Delicious!!! Bought it the day it came out,” a third shared.
Where can you get Nutella Peanut?
The new spread is now available at major retailers nationwide and on Amazon.
It will also be featured in a free, open-to-the-public Nutella Peanut Pop-Up in New York City at 372 Lafayette Street for one weekend, May 16–17, where the brand will be giving out “free Nutella Peanut sandwiches and dippable snacks.”
