Trader Joe’s Mini Tote Bags Sent Customers Into a Frenzy – And Now They’re Back in Stock
But they probably won’t be for long.
Trader Joe's
You know those mini tote bags Trader Joe’s was carrying for a brief while this past spring? The ones that went viral, drew crowds, flew off the shelves and were subsequently sold for jaw-dropping amounts on resale sites?
They’re now back in stock. But they probably won’t be for long.
The totes, which landed back in stores on Wednesday, are “only available for a limited time,” Trader Joe’s says.
Similar to regular, full-size Trader Joe’s-branded canvas bags, but smaller, the bags are made of the same blend of 65 percent cotton and 35 percent polyester and feature colorful carrying handles set against a white background in one of four different hues: navy, yellow, red or forest green.
“The difference is, these Totes are Mini — about 13 inches long, by 11 inches tall, by 6 inches wide,” according to an official description.
The totes’ diminutive size, the retail chain says, “is ideal for smaller shopping trips, to pick up those few items you forgot the first time around.”
Once they hit stores this week, the bags immediately touched off a buying frenzy — with lines snaking outside stores at some locations.
“There’s actually someone monitoring them because people are apparently buying them like crazy,” one Cleveland area reporter shared on YouTube, adding that stores are limiting the number of bags customers can purchase.
TikTokers are sharing tips, tracking the mad grabbing, celebrating snagging bags and showing how they plan to use them.
The bags sell for $2.99 each and word is new batches are being released in waves at various times during the day.
And if you miss them again this time around? Then getting a small bag may require a deep pocket.
The asking price for a full set of four bags in each color on eBay is currently as high $500, although others have priced a collection of mini totes somewhat more modestly.
It should be noted that Trader Joe’s frowns on the reselling of its products.
“At times, and more so recently, we have been aware of our products being resold, often at exorbitant prices, in various places (online and elsewhere),” it said in a March 2021 statement. “This is done without our approval or authorization and outside the controls of our quality-minded supply chain … We neither condone nor support the reselling of our products and do all we can to stop the practice.”
