Auntie Anne’s Is Bringing Back Its Beloved Sour Cream & Onion Pretzels – But There’s a Catch
Fans had petitioned and pleaded for the pungent pretzel’s return.

Auntie Anne’s Sour Cream & Onion pretzels may have been niche, but they were loved. When the pretzel chain discontinued the aromatic option a few years back, fans mourned the loss and petitioned — persuasively, as it turned out — for its return.
One change.org petition titled Bring Back Auntie Anne’s Sour Cream and Onion Pretzel! has garnered 1,229 signatures and numerous heartfelt comments enumerating the flavor’s merits — with testimonials rolling in as long as two years ago and as recently as seven days ago.
A sampling of pleas for the pungent pretzel’s return:
“My favorite pretzel growing up. Crazy to me that they discontinued such a delicious flavor. Bring it back please!!”
“This news of it being discontinued has truly devastated me!!! I PRAY it comes back!”
“You give us yummy pretzel then rip them away, kinda mean if you ask me.”
“Please it was so good, it was stinky in the best way. I just know one of these would fix me rn.”
Reddit, TikTok, Facebook and Yelp were also rife with protests, pleas and plaintive posts. Some of the chain’s franchisees even took to the Web to demand the flavor’s reinstatement, saying its discontinuation “left a gap in the menu that no other flavor can fill.”
“We urge Auntie Anne’s corporate management to listen to its franchisees and valued customers by reinstating the Sour Cream & Onion … pretzel” flavor, the Philadelphia-based franchisees wrote.
Well, Auntie Anne’s corporate management has listened: On August 25, Sour Cream & Onion pretzels are coming back — with a new twist.
“Back by popular demand, Sour Cream & Onion, a fan-favorite flavor, has been reimagined in Flavor Blast Pretzel Nugget form for the first time ever, delivering a tangy, savory punch of flavor in every bite,” the brand says in a press release.
Auntie Anne’s is also introducing a new flavor: Honey Mustard Flavor Blast Nuggets, which it describes as a “sweet and zesty twist on the classic dipping sauce.”
Note, however, that both flavors will be available at participating locations nationwide only for a limited time.
To celebrate the fan-favorite flavor’s return, Auntie Anne’s is hosting a one-day event on Saturday, August 23, at Roosevelt Field Mall on Long Island in New York. At this open-to-the-public, first-come, first-served event, fans can enter a Flavor Blast pod, in which they will “experience a burst of Sour Cream & Onion pretzel ‘seasoning,’ and grab flying ‘Pretzel Tokens.’” The tokens can net them various prizes, including a shot at an Auntie Anne’s Golden Brown Card, entitling them to free pretzels and lemonade for a year.
“Our fans have been asking for Sour Cream & Onion to return, and we knew we had to go ALL IN on the beloved flavor,” Megan Swader, vice president of marketing at Auntie Anne’s, says in a statement. “The Flavor Blast Challenge gives flavor-loving fans the chance to immerse themselves – literally – in a Pretzel Nugget Cup and come out seasoned for the win.”
