Stanley Recalls 2.6 Million Travel Mugs
Their lids may present a ‘burn hazard.’

Stanley drinkware stans, check your drawers and cupboards, bags and backpacks. The popular brand is recalling 2.6 million travel mugs because their lids may present a “burn hazard.”
The voluntary recall, announced by the company on December 12, 2024, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, pertains to all Switchback (12-ounce and 16-ounce) and Trigger Action (12-ounce, 16-ounce, and 20-ounce) travel mugs sold in the United States.
“These mugs’ lid threads can shrink when exposed to heat and torque, causing the lid to detach during use, posing a burn hazard,” according to a recall notice posted online by the CPSC.
According to the agency, there have been 91 reported instances worldwide — 16 of them in the United States — in which the lids of the travel mugs came loose while they were being used. These instances resulted in 38 burn injuries globally — two in the U.S. — in which 11 people required medical attention.
The recalled mugs are double-walled; feature the Stanley logo on the front and bottom; were produced in a range colors, including white, black and green; and feature a polypropylene lid.
Manufactured in China and imported by Stanley 1913, the mugs were sold at U.S. retail stores nationwide and online, including by Amazon.com, Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Target, between June 2016 and December 2024. They were priced between $20 and $50.
The mugs subject to recall feature the following product identification numbers on the bottom: 20-01437 (Switchback 12-ounce); 20-01436 or 20-02211 (Switchback 16-ounce); 20-02033, 20-02779 or 20-02825 (Trigger Action 12-ounce); 20-02030, 20-02745 or 20-02957 (Trigger Action 16-ounce); 20-02034 or 20-02746 (Trigger Action 20-ounce).
