Costco Recalls Nearly 1 Million Bottles of Kirkland Prosecco, But Not Because of the Wine Itself

As the holidays rapidly approach, bringing with them ample occasion to hoist a celebratory glass of bubbly, Costco has announced a recall fans of Kirkland wine will want to heed.
F&F Fine Wines International (dba Ethica WInes), the importer and distributor behind Costco’s Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG, is recalling nearly 1 million bottles of the popular Prosecco. The reason for the voluntary recall has nothing to do with the wine in the bottle; the issue is safety risks related to the bottles themselves.
“The Prosecco bottles can break or shatter, posing a laceration hazard,” according to a recall alert posted online on Thursday, November 6, by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Which Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG bottles are being recalled?
Approximately 941,400 bottles of Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG, sold at Costco, are being recalled. The recalled bottles are green, with purple foil tops and labels. They were sold under the product name “Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG,” UPC 196633883742 and Costco Item Number 1879870.
The bottles were manufactured in Italy and imported by F&F Fine Wines International, Inc. (dba Ethica Wines), of Miami, Florida. They were sold between April 2025 and August 2025 for about $8 each in Costco stores in the following states: Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Why are Costco’s Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG bottles being recalled?
The bottles are being recalled due to safety concerns. F&F Fine Wines International says it has received 10 reports of incidents in which bottles have shattered or broken. One of those incidents resulted in a laceration injury.
What should you do if you have any of the recalled bottles of Kirkland Prosecco?
Consumers are being directed not to attempt to open or use the recalled bottles. In fact, they shouldn’t even risk taking them back to Costco.
“Consumers should discard the recalled bottles in their household trash and contact Ethica Wines for instructions on how to obtain a full refund from Costco,” the CPSC advises.
