Costco Egg Recall Upgraded to Highest Risk Level
The FDA now says the Kirkland Signature-branded eggs may cause ‘serious adverse health consequences or death.’

Time for another fridge check. (And if you’re doing any holiday baking, let this be a reminder not to eat unbaked batter that contains eggs.) The Food and Drug Administration has just upgraded a recall of eggs sold at Costco to its highest alert level.
On Friday, the FDA reclassified the voluntary recall of Handsome Brook Farms eggs sold under the Kirkland Signature brand name as a Class 1 risk, meaning there is a “reasonable probability” that using or being exposed to them “will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”
The risk upgrade follows the announcement last month that New York-based Handsome Brook Farms was recalling 10,800 units of Kirkland Signature-branded Organic Pasture Raised 24-Count Eggs because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.
The eggs were sold in 25 Costco stores in five states — Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee — beginning November 22, 2024.

“The recall only applies to units with the Julian code 327 and a Use By Date of Jan 5, 2025, which can be found printed on the side of the plastic egg carton,” the FDA says. “No other products are impacted by this recall.”
The recalled eggs were reportedly not intended to be distributed to retailers, but were mistakenly packaged and distributed nonetheless. The company says it has initiated “additional supply chain controls and retraining” to avoid similar mistakes in the future.
So far, there have been no illnesses linked to the recalled eggs. And again, no other eggs sold at Costco are affected. However, as the upgraded risk level indicates, Salmonella infections can be serious or even deadly for those who are most vulnerable, including children under age five, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems.
If you have the recalled eggs, you are urged to stop using them and return them to your local Costco for a full refund — or just throw them away.
