Taylor Farms Recalls Jalapeño Products in 26 States
The items, potentially contaminated with Salmonella, were sold at Walmart, Target, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods and more.

It's felt like a summer of rampant recalls. The latest: Taylor Fresh Foods (a.k.a. Taylor Farms) — the produce company behind last month’s multi-state Cyclospora-contaminated iceberg lettuce recall — has just announced a separate voluntary recall of products made with jalapeño peppers, due to potential Salmonella contamination.
Is this jalapeño product recall connected to last week's Salmonella outbreak?
Yes, this news is related to the announcement last week that federal health officials, along with state and local partners, were investigating a multi-state Salmonella outbreak potentially linked to fresh jalapeños served at several restaurant chains, including Chipotle Mexican Grill and QDOBA.
In this instance, though, the recalled jalapeño-containing products were sold in grocery chains including Hannaford, Kroger, Target, Trader Joe’s, Stop-and-Shop, Walmart and Whole Foods.
Both of these announcements are what the U.S. Food and Drug Administration calls “downstream recalls” related to fresh jalapeños from Sinaloa, Mexico, distributed to wholesalers and restaurants by Coast Citrus Distributors.
“Upon notification that Coast Citrus Distributors is voluntarily recalling fresh jalapeños due to potential Salmonella contamination, Taylor Fresh Foods is recalling finished products containing jalapeños subject to this recall,” according to an alert on the FDA website.
Which jalapeño products are subject to this “downstream recall”?
A list of all of the branded and unbranded “finished” products, along with their corresponding product and label images, can be found here on the Taylor Farms website and here in an FDA alert.
Included among the 20 recalled products are a variety of salsas, dips, guacamole, diced jalapeños, sandwiches, burritos and more, sold at several major grocery stores and retailers. The products feature a “Best If Used By” date “up to and including” August 16, 2026.
Where were the recalled products distributed?
The products were distributed to retail distribution centers in 26 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Wisconsin and West Virginia.
Are the products still being distributed?
No, Taylor Fresh Foods says it is no longer sourcing products from Coast Citrus Distributors and that it will henceforth use ingredients from alternative suppliers.
What is the danger of Salmonella contamination?
In healthy adults, common symptoms of infection from Salmonella include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain; in rare cases, the organism can get into the bloodstream and cause more severe illnesses, including arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis. In the very young, the elderly or those with weakened immune systems, Salmonella infections carry greater risk and may be deadly.
Has anyone gotten sick from the jalapeño products recalled by Taylor Fresh Foods?
Taylor Fresh Foods says it is currently “not aware of any reported illnesses” linked to products containing jalapeños that it has distributed.
