There is a risk that they can burn, melt or even catch fire.

Check your appliance cabinet — or kitchen counter. Best Buy is recalling several models of Insignia air fryers and air fryer ovens because they can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards.
All in all, about 772,000 air fryers and air fryer ovens in the United States and Canada are being recalled after about 104 reports of them burning, melting or catching fire, the Washington Post reports.
The voluntary recall, launched in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada, involves the following model numbers:
United States
Air Fryers: NS-AF32DBK9, NS-AF32MBK9, NS-AF50MBK9, NS-AF53DSS0, NS-AF53MSS0, and NS-AF55DBK9
Air Fryer Ovens: NS-AFO6DBK1 and NS-AFO6DSS1
Canada
Air Fryers: NS-AF32MBK9-C, NS-AF50DBK0-C, NS-AF50MBK9-C, NS-AF53MSS0-C, and NS-AF55DBK9-C
Air Fryer Ovens: NS-AFO6DSS1-C
To check if your model is among those recalled, look for the brand name Insignia on the top or front of the unit and a rating label on the underside of the unit that identifies the brand Insignia and the model number.
The affected models of air fryers and air fryer ovens have cooking chamber capacities that range from 3.4 to 10 quarts. They also have plastic or plastic and stainless-steel bodies in black and stainless-steel finishes.
(Note that the Insignia line of air fryer and air fryer ovens is not among those recommended in Food Network Kitchen’s roundup of the best air fryers, so if you purchased an air fryer from that product test, you’re very likely in the clear.)
If you have one of the recalled air fryer or air fryer oven models, which were sold at Best Buy between November 2018 and February 2022, you should immediately stop using the product and register it online on this page or call Best Buy at 800-566-7498 (8 a.m-5 p.m. ET, Monday-Friday) to arrange a return, the CPSC advises. The portal will take you through a verification process in order to confirm that your model is among those being recalled.
Returns will be made using a pre-paid shipping box and label, and return instructions will be provided. Once the unit is received and verified as being among those recalled, credit will be issued.
Best Buy is also planning to directly contact all known purchasers of the recalled units, in order to arrange returns. However, you are advised not to try to return the recalled units to a Best Buy store and ask for a refund. Instead, refunds will be issued as a credit in the form of an electronic gift card — of $50 USD, if you purchased it in the U.S., $75 CAD, if in Canada; or more, if the amount on your store receipt or order email is higher — that can be used at Best Buy stores, BestBuy.com or BestBuy.ca.
If you don’t have an in-store receipt or online order email for your recalled air fryer or air fryer oven purchase, don’t worry: You can still get the $50 credit (in the U.S. — or $75 CAD, if you bought your unit in Canada). You may also be able to find a record of the purchase with the price you paid, on your My BestBuy account; it may be worth a quick search.
More information can be found on consumer product recall pages posted on both the CPSC and Health Canada, as well as on Insignia’s website.
