There's a classic adage that claims there's no such thing as a free lunch. For the most part, that's usually true. But every so often, even the biggest cynics among us get a surprise, and those are times when it's delicious to be proven wrong.
On Wednesday, May 6, if you happen to have a name in the "Mike" family, you're going to discover there is indeed such a thing as a free lunch — and it's all in the name of some good-natured trolling.
How can you get a free sandwich from Firehouse Subs on May 6?
For one day only on May 6, Firehouse Subs will be offering a free medium Steak & Cheese Melt to anyone with a variation of the name Mike. You'll have to show a valid ID proving your name is Mike, Michael, Mikey, Miguel, Michelle, Michele or Michaela, but beyond that, your sandwich is free and clear, no purchase necessary.
The new Steak & Cheese Melt is made with prime rib, provolone, brown-sugar caramelized onions, and red and green bell peppers.
Why is Firehouse Subs giving away sandwiches to people named Mike?
While the giveaway sounds like pure trolling of rival Jersey Mike’s, it's actually rather appropriate for another reason: The president of Firehouse Subs happens to also have the name Mike.
“We’re proud of this sub — the prime rib, the caramelized onions, the top-cut roll," Mike Hancock, President of Firehouse Subs, says in a press release. "Once people try it, we think it earns its place among the best steak subs out there. Sharing it with every Mike in America felt like a great way to kick things off.”
The free melt is limited to one per qualifying guest. If that's you, then get ready to celebrate!
