I Tried Buffalo Wild Wings’ New Ranch-Flavored Popping Candy
Has the ranch dressing craze now gone too far?

The current ranch dressing craze has just reached a new level of insanity — a level so bonkers it almost doesn’t sound real. But having tried it myself, I can attest to the truth of what I am about to tell you: Savory ranch popping candy (basically what you’d get if ranch dressing and Pop Rocks had a baby) now exists.
On July 20 (just ahead of National Chicken Wing Day on July 29), Buffalo Wild Wings is set to launch Poppin’ Ranch, a candy that, for those brave enough to try it, aims to bring “the crunch (and the crackle) to wings.” I got an advance taste.
What is Buffalo Wild Wings new Poppin’ Ranch candy?
It’s ranch-flavored Pop Rocks, basically (although the brand has to say “popping candy” instead — trademarks being what they are).
“Poppin’ Ranch reinvents the iconic flavor fans already love by transforming it into a playful, multi-sensory experience that quite literally pops,” Buffalo Wild Wings says.
“B-Dubs has done something that’s never been done before with Poppin' Ranch,” Tristan Meline, brand president of Buffalo Wild Wings, says in a news release. “It takes that classic popping candy you remember and pairs it with our signature ranch flavor. It’s an unexpected sensory experience that sounds wild, tastes delicious and has to be experienced to be believed.”
Do you eat Poppin’ Ranch straight up, like candy?
I mean, you could. But after tasting it, I can’t say I’d recommend eating it on its own — unless your idea of a good time is a mouth full of salty and garlicky ranch dressing seasoning that sizzles and snaps on your tongue, albeit a bit less aggressively than you might expect.
I also can’t say I enjoyed Poppin’ Ranch — a powdery, granular candy that comes in packets — instead of salt around the rim of a margarita glass.
However, sprinkling Poppin’ Ranch directly onto wings, a slider or sides, or mixing it into ranch dressing for an added pop? This I heartily recommend.
When “added to a favorite Buffalo Wild Wings menu item,” the brand says, “Poppin’ Ranch offers a bright burst of savory ranch flavor followed by an audible pop and crackle that brings even more excitement to every order.”
True.
Where can you get Buffalo Wild Wings’ new Poppin’ Ranch?
Poppin’ Ranch will be available on July 20 for $0.99 per packet at Buffalo Wild Wings sports bars and Buffalo Wild Wings GO locations nationwide. It arrives just in time for National Chicken Wing Day, on July 29, which Buffalo Wild Wings is celebrating by giving away free wings with any $15 purchase. The giveaway is, the brand says, “the perfect excuse for wing lovers to try the crackle for themselves.”
If you dare.
