For so many, McDonald’s collectibles serve as a nostalgic and comforting reminder of simpler times when family meals were spent huddled over a Big Mac or Quarter Pounder and fries, and well-stocked Happy Meals. A keepsake cup, game, or toy was a joyful bonus to the indulgent meal, and it soon found its place within the home, to be enjoyed for years to come.

With a new generation of McDonald’s loyalists, comes a new era of collectibles, as McDonald’s announced it will launch its Collector’s Meal on Tuesday, August 13, featuring six collectible cups inspired by the keepsakes of times past.

The cups spotlight memorable moments, themes and characters from McDonald’s history, like Cowpoke McNugget Buddy from 1988, McDonald’s Dragster from 1993 and the Hello Kitty Crew from 2000. A Beanie Babies cup is a call back to the craze of the ’90s, while a cup that unites uber popular children's toys, Barbie and Hot Wheels, is likely to be just as much a hit today as it was in the ’80s.

Available all day, but only for a limited time, the Collector’s Meal will give diners the opportunity to collect one cup, with the purchase of a sausage and egg McMuffin, hash brown and hot coffee during breakfast hours; and the choice of a 10-piece chicken McNuggets or Big Mac with fries and a soft drink during the rest of the day.

“There’s an undeniable thrill when you snag that one elusive McDonald’s collectible or the final piece to complete your collection. We’re bringing back some of our most-loved keepsakes with a twist, giving fans a memory that they can hold in their hands,” says Morgan Flatley, Global Chief Marketing Officer and Head of New Business Ventures at McDonald’s in a press release. “These new collectible cups commemorate some of our most unforgettable designs and global collaborations over the years, allowing longtime fans to relive treasured moments and helping a new generation make their own lasting memories.”

Collectors can enjoy an added element of fun by scanning their cup on Snapchat, or visiting McDonald’s Snapchat profile, to tap into the app’s augmented reality experience.
