Oh, boy — or should we say, oh, boy band? McDonald’s is set to launch a new Happy Meal featuring TinyTAN toys, inspired by the seven members of the immensely popular K-Pop group BTS.
Citing fan requests, McDonald’s says TinyTAN Happy Meals will arrive in the U.S. on September 3. The chain says that, for the first time, a Happy Meal release will offer two different full sets of toys for fans to collect.
One set, the “Throwback Edition,” will feature each character dressed in the outfits they wore in a commercial for the brands’ previous collaboration — a BTS Meal McDonald’s released in 2021. That initial collab, surrounding a meal consisting of a 10-piece order of Chicken McNuggets, medium fries, medium Coke and two BTS-selected sauces, was launched in more than 50 markets worldwide and became a global phenomenon (in some cases, causing serious chaos beneath the Golden Arches).
The other set, the “Encore Edition,” will feature each BTS-inspired toy character “sporting outfits that nod to the second legendary collab with McDonald’s,” the brand says in an announcement posted on Tuesday, August 19. This follow-up set of toys will be available starting September 23.
The BTS-inspired, collectible-toy-containing Happy Meals will also be available in a host of other markets around the world. McDonald’s Senior Marketing Director Guillaume Huin has posted a list of countries in which they will be released on X, noting that release dates in those markets may vary.
The TinyTAN Happy Meal boxes will feature a scannable code that directs fans to a TinyTAN Power Up game. And the brand is inviting BTS fans to “Magic Meetup” at nya West studios in Los Angeles on September 27 and 28. There, they can “step into the rhythm of TinyTAN with an immersive, multisensory experience, filled with music and Happy Meal magic,” according to a news release.
McDonald’s TinyTAN Happy Meals will be available — for orders placed in person or via the app — only for a limited time, while supplies last. And given the demand surrounding the last BTS-McDonald’s collab and the excitement among the band’s fans, you will probably want to get there early. And maybe wear a helmet.
