Taco Bell Introduces a New Flavor of Its Iconic Mountain Dew Baja Blast
The first permanent expansion of the drink lineup has a bold new color.

Quick, name the drink most closely associated with Taco Bell. Yes, of course, Mountain Dew Baja Blast. With its “citrus-lime” flavor and sweet green glow, it’s been the chain’s iconic beverage since the summer of 2004.
Over the years, Taco Bell has riffed on its signature sip, all with an instantly recognizable vibrant green hue. Last year, in honor of the drink’s 20-year anniversary, it even offered a Mountain Dew Baja Blast-flavored gelato. And the brand has promised to release its long-teased Mountain Dew Baja Blast Pie later this year.
Now, though, Taco Bell is launching what it says is the first-ever permanent flavor expansion of the beloved beverage — and it’s a whole different color.
The new drink, Mountain Dew Baja Midnight, is a deep, dark purple. Adding a “refreshing blast” of passion fruit to the lime flavor of classic Baja Blast, it debuts on Taco Bell menus nationwide on August 14. Pricing will be $2.49 for a small drink, $2.79 for a medium and $2.99 for a large.
For a limited time, the chain will also debut a frozen variation, Baja Midnight Freeze. This icy version can be ordered in just two sizes, priced at $3.79 for a regular frozen drink and $3.99 for a large.
“Baja Blast has consistently sparked creativity, defied expectations, and continues to be a cornerstone of the Taco Bell experience,” Taylor Montgomery, Taco Bell’s chief marketing officer, says in a press release. “Our fans made it iconic, and they’re the reason we’re expanding the universe for the first time with Baja Midnight. It’s unexpected, it’s Taco Bell purple, and it’s tasty enough to earn its place in the fandom.”
To introduce fans to the new beverage, Taco Bell is offering Rewards Members a free medium Baja Midnight on August 15 when they spend $5 or more on the Taco Bell app.
I got an advance taste of Baja Midnight earlier this year at Live Mas Live — and I really liked it. I found its blend of passion fruit and citrus-lime refreshing and sweet, but not too sweet. Just right for washing down Mexican-inspired meals.
